Job summary

Archdiocese of St. Louis seeks a Substitute Teacher to maintain a safe, respectful classroom and deliver instruction in the absence of the regular teacher. You will follow lesson plans, manage behaviors, take attendance, and support academic, social, and spiritual growth in a Catholic school setting.

You will work flexibly across different grade levels and subjects, collaborating with staff to ensure continuity of learning and adherence to diocesan policies and school procedures.

Qualifications

• Previous experience working with children or in an educational setting preferred.
• Strong communication, classroom management, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
• Ability to follow written lesson plans, classroom instructions, and school procedures.
• Ability to adapt to different grade levels, subjects, and classroom environments.
• Commitment to supporting the mission, values, and educational philosophy of Catholic education.
• Must complete required background checks and Safe Environment training.

Responsibilities

• Implement lesson plans and instructional activities provided by the classroom teacher.
• Supervise students in the classroom, hallways, cafeteria, playground, and other school areas as assigned.
• Maintain a positive, orderly, safe, and respectful classroom environment.
• Encourage appropriate student behavior consistent with school expectations and Catholic values.
• Take attendance and complete required classroom records, assignments, or reports.
• Provide instructional assistance and clarification to students as needed.
• Communicate effectively with school administration, faculty, and staff regarding classroom needs, student concerns, or other matters.
• Adapt quickly to varying grade levels, subject areas, classroom routines, and instructional expectations.
• Ensure the safety, supervision, and well-being of students at all times.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding students, families, staff, and school matters.
• Follow all diocesan, school, classroom, emergency, and safety procedures and policies.
• Support the mission and values of the Catholic school through professional conduct and positive interactions with students.
• Perform other duties as assigned by school administration.

Job Summary

The Substitute Teacher is responsible for maintaining a safe, respectful, and productive classroom environment while providing continuity of instruction in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. The Substitute Teacher follows lesson plans and school policies, communicates effectively with students and staff, manages classroom behavior, takes attendance, and provides instructional support.

The successful candidate is adaptable and able to work effectively across different grade levels, subject areas, and classroom settings while supporting the academic, social, and spiritual development of students and upholding Catholic school values.
