Job Title: Structured Behavior Support (SBS) Teacher (2026-2027 School Year)

Wage/Hour Status: Exempt

Pay Grade: Teacher Salary Scale

Primary Purpose

The Structured Behavior Support (SBS) Teacher supports students with challenging emotional, physical, or maladaptive social behaviors in the general education setting. Responsibilities include providing individualized social skills instruction, monitoring progress, and collaborating with staff, administrators, and parents to implement behavior intervention plans and ensure learning environments meet students’ needs.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required special education endorsements

Preferred

  • One year of student teaching or approved internship
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with general education endorsement(s)
  • Valid Texas ESL teaching certificate
  • Experience working with students eligible for special education supports and services
  • CPR and Nonviolent Crisis Intervention training
Special Knowledge/Skills
  • Knowledge of special needs students, the ARD Committee process, and IEP goal setting
  • Understanding of curriculum, instruction, and appropriate accommodations for students with disabilities
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work with children with disabilities
  • Technology skills including integration
Major Responsibilities and Duties
  • Develop and implement behavioral services with fidelity (e.g., utilize behavior management system, requisition materials, oversee academic instruction during orientation)
  • Supervise data collection, analyze data, and revise student behavioral instruction
  • Organize weekly SBS team meetings and share student data with team members
  • Provide staff development on behavior programming, supporting school personnel and parents
  • Supervise SBS paraprofessionals, manage crisis situations, and maintain Nonviolent Crisis Intervention certification
  • Implement instructional programs, correlate IEPs with regular curriculum, design lesson plans, and ensure accommodations and behavior intervention plans are implemented
  • Serve as student’s case manager: coordinate ARD and IEP committees, ensure SBIEP, monitor progress, participate in placement decisions, and maintain documentation
  • Assist regular school personnel in providing appropriate educational environments for students in the general education classroom
  • Establish and maintain frequent communication with families to facilitate environmental changes for learning and behavioral progress
  • Maintain confidential records, complete end‑of‑year reports, and perform other duties as assigned
  • Develop and implement Behavior Intervention Plans
Working Conditions

Physical demands include mobility, standing, prolonged sitting, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, and repetitive hand motions. Must lift up to 50 lbs and use physical restraint when necessary. Requires maintaining emotional control under stress and working with frequent interruptions.

Fulfilling duties necessitates working in inclusive general education settings and implementing the standards‑based IEP process.
