Job summary

Katy ISD Taylor High is seeking a dedicated SPED teacher to provide structured life skills instruction for students with autism spectrum disorder. The role involves collaboration with ARD/IEP teams, data-driven planning, and strong family communication.

Starting immediately, you will work 187 duty days with flexibility to contribute to district initiatives and professional development while supporting students and families in a dynamic school community.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Valid Texas certificate in appropriate area.
  • Experience working with students with autism spectrum disorder.
  • Ability to collaborate between school and community.
  • CPI certification preferred or available after employment.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in ARD/IEP meetings for eligible students.
  • Complete local, state and federal paperwork for program participation.
  • Develop and implement instructional goals tailored to each student’s needs.
  • Demonstrate behavior management strategies including antecedent and consequence manipulation.
  • Provide ongoing communication with parents, campus staff, and SPED supervisors.
  • Maintain data to measure student progress and effectiveness of instruction.

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field

  • Valid Texas certificate in appropriate area

  • Ability to work effectively between the school and community

  • Experience in providing instruction to students with autism spectrum disorder

  • Valid CPI certification (preferred or after employment)


The mission of this role :


Provide special education consultation and instruction to meet the needs of eligible students identified with autism spectrum disorder.


What success looks like for this role :



  • Participate in ARD/IEP meetings for eligible students.

  • Complete local, state and federal paper work required for program participation.

  • Develop and implement instructional program goals to meet the individual needs of each student and accountable for the KISD autism program teaching competencies.

  • Demonstrate competence in the principles of changing behavior including consideration of environmental factors, and manipulating antecedents and consequences.

  • Administer criterion referenced, district, and state testing as appropriate.

  • Provide on-going communication with parents/guardians, campus staff, and special education supervisors.

  • Collect and maintain appropriate data to measure student progress.

  • Provide instruction using curriculum, environmental adaptations and accommodations, and instructional methods proven effective through current scientifically based research.

  • Use teaching procedures that promote generalization and maintenance of skills.

  • Participate in required continuing professional development designed to further develop knowledge and skills.

  • Physically prompt students through instruction which may require lifting and positioning.

  • Other SHARS Duties as assigned.

  • Provide Personal Care as identified in applicable student IEPs.


Equipment Used :


Personal computer, copier, printer and fax machine, motor lab equipment, adaptive equipment, voice output devices.

Workplace operational environment to include:


Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, kneeling, pushing, and pulling; occasional running, heavy lifting and carrying, 45 pounds and over daily, positioning of students, moving classroom or adaptive equipment , noise exposure, biological exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases; exposure to physical and verbal outbursts by students. May be required to utilize CPI strategies to manage disruptive students, including restraint.
