Job summary

Summary

Successful Special Education Teacher Candidates must be able to demonstrate strong abilities in the developmentand implementation of strategies to meet the needs of students with a variety of handicapping conditions. Must havea strong understanding of modifying the general education curriculum for special-needs students, based upon avariety of instructional techniques and technologies.

Special education teachers must have strong skills necessary to confer with parents or guardians, other teachers,counselors, and administrators in order to resolve students' behavioral and academic needs. Strong consideration given to candidates that have Autism classroom and positive behavioral support experience.

Physical Demands

An individual who holds this position must have the ability to:

• Occasionally lift 50 pounds
• Frequently walk up and down stairs while assisting students

Conditions and Environment

The individual who holds this position will regularly work in a school environment that is noisy and active. Occasionally the individual will be required to work outdoors for short periods of time to perform such tasks as loading and unloading students from district transportation.
