Job description

General Description

This is for the 2026-27 school year. Plans, delivers and evaluates instruction based upon specific standards and objectives established by CCPS, for the discipline of trade and industrial education (Electricity - VDOE 8533, 8534, 8535). Assists students in learning knowledge and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able and responsible citizens. Performs in compliance with instructional program guidelines and legal requirements of trade and industrial education curriculum and the aligned career credential.

Essential Job Functions
  • Practicing safety in the workplace, using tools and materials, solving mathematical problems related to electricity, applying basic electrical theory, navigating the National Electrical Code (NEC) book, selecting and installing conductors, identifying and installing conduit and raceways, examining lighting, communication, and power systems, identifying and installing panel boards and switchboards, identifying and installing grounding systems, interpreting blueprints and specifications, installing and maintaining motors and drives, motor controls and programmable logic controllers, describing generators and power supplies, installing transformers, career basics for the electricity field, examining all aspects of the electrical industry.
  • Collaborates with representatives of local construction companies, electrical contractors, material suppliers, and county building inspectors in the facilitation of a program advisory committee and in support of construction projects both on and off campus.
  • Develops and provides curriculum and instruction that aligns with the VDOE trade and industrial education program and the aligned career credential.
  • Works collaboratively in a technical center setting to develop work-based learning opportunities for students to meet the VDOE high quality work-based learning expectations.
  • Collaborates with outside agencies to develop work-based learning opportunities for students to meet the VDOE high quality work-based learning expectations.
  • Provides summer instruction/enrichment, CAMP EPIC instruction, and work-based learning supervision.
  • Met all career and technical education implementation requirements associated with the Carl D. Perkins Act implementation.
  • Met and instructs the student(s) in the locations and at the time designated.
  • Develops and maintains the physical environment of the classroom that is conducive to effective learning within the limits of resources provided by the system.
  • Prepares for classes assigned and shows evidence of preparation upon request of the immediate supervisor.
  • Demonstrates mastery of content area.
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Plans and delivers appropriate curriculum content to students.
  • Assesses student learning on an ongoing basis and alters instruction to meet group/individual needs.
  • Uses the curriculum of the district to plan daily instructional activities.
  • Maintains order within the classroom setting in accordance with division guidelines regarding student behavior management.
  • Supervises students in non-classroom time (before school, after school, student activities, fire drills).
  • Collaborates with other faculty in planning and delivering instruction to students.
  • Attends and participates in faculty and department meetings.
  • Communicates regularly with parents.
  • Ensures compliance with existing applicable federal and state statutes and local policies, regulations and guidelines related to public schools.
  • Demonstrates commitment to improving professional competence.
  • Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications
  • Knowledge of current residential and industrial electrical practices, tools, equipment, and techniques.
  • Knowledge of local building and fire codes.
  • Requires knowledge of the concepts, principles and methodologies of instruction.
  • Requires general knowledge of academic curriculum for assigned classes.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop instructional goals, to design and deliver instruction and to assess students' learning.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with others effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability in decision-making, problem analysis, conflict resolution, interpersonal relationships, and planning.
Additional Job Requirements
  • Must hold or be eligible for a Virginia teaching license with an endorsement in the applicable subject area of Trade and Industrial Education (Electricity) with an associated industry credential.
  • Must maintain First Aid, CPR & AED certification.
  • Prior experience teaching career and technical education is preferred.

Physical Demands
  • Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to use a telephone, to enter data into a computer terminal; to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear, understand speech and speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly at normal levels indoors and on the telephone.
  • Frequent walking, standing, light lifting up to 50 pounds, and other limited physical activities are required.
  • Occasional travel with students on field trips may be necessary.
  • Daily personal and close contact with children to provide classroom management and learning environment support is required.
  • Regular contact with other staff members and parents is required.
Work Environment
  • Duties performed typically in school settings to include: classroom, gym, cafeteria; auditorium; and recreational areas.
  • The noise level is quiet to moderate.
Compensation
  • $71,560.61 - $108,672.64
