OB DESCRIPTION:
This is a qualifying position for the Providence Schools special education incentive program, where teachers assigned to BIP, ECS, or ASD classrooms will receive a step increase of $10,000 above the standard salary. This incentive will be in effect for SY24-25 and SY25-26, with ongoing evaluation for long-term modifications.
Providence Public Schools District (PPSD) seeks an exceptional SCHOOL SPECIAL EDUCATION (SPED) BEHAVIOR DISORDER TEACHER who is highly qualified and skilled to join our community of educators, students, and stakeholders. This is an exciting opportunity for teachers seeking a challenging and rewarding experience.
Under the direction of the school principal or appropriate supervisor/administrator, and consistent with the Providence Public Schools’ vision and mission, the Special Education teacher will collaborate with parents, students, and general education teachers to promote student achievement.
Additionally, the Special Education Teacher will:
- Provide daily instruction based on RI State Standards, the Providence School District Curriculum, and students’ Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Implement, develop, and case manage students’ services and IEPs in accordance with State and Federal Regulations.
Salary note: 10 extra days

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in the applicable field of education from an accredited college or university.
RIDE Certification Requirements:
- Early Childhood Special Education Teacher, Birth-2
- Elementary Special Education Teacher, Grades 1-6
- Middle Grades Special Education Teacher, Grades 5-8
- Secondary Grades Special Education Teacher, Grades 7-12
- ESL Certification Preferred.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND CURRICULAR LINKAGES
- Administer district curriculum aligned with Rhode Island State Standards.
- Provide specially designed instruction to students with disabilities in various settings, aligned with IEP goals.
- Collaborate with general education teachers and paraprofessionals using the co-teaching model, sharing planning and instructional responsibilities to create the least restrictive environment.
- Develop and implement IEPs within regulatory timelines.
- Complete quarterly progress reports and ensure IEP goals are met.
- Maintain a supportive, positive, and orderly learning environment.
- Create and implement behavioral intervention plans as needed.
- Integrate technology into instruction.
- Provide individual and group interventions as part of the Response to Intervention process.
- Implement evidence-based instruction tailored to students’ academic, social, and behavioral needs.
- Monitor and report student progress regularly.
- Adhere to federal, state, and local special education mandates.
- Manage re-evaluations in accordance with regulations.
- Ensure students with disabilities receive FAPE in the least restrictive environment.
- Participate in district and school professional development.
- Maintain a web-based portfolio and outcomes data for preschool students.
- Develop and deliver daily pre-k learning experiences aligned with RI Early Learning Standards.
- Assist with Medicaid billing data input, IEP system updates, and administrative data collection.
- Utilize positive behavioral supports appropriately.
- Work professionally with administrators, staff, parents, and community members.
- Create a classroom climate conducive to positive learning.
- Differentiate instruction and provide appropriate accommodations for assessments.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
