Job summary

Kentucky United Methodist Children's Homes is seeking a Teachers Assistant to support Lead and Secondary Teachers in classrooms, assist with admissions and assessments, and provide direct, child-facing educational services on-site during school hours.

The role emphasizes trauma-informed care, effective communication, and cultural responsiveness to Youth. A bilingual (Spanish/English) capability is preferred, with a high school diploma and at least 1 year of youth experience.

Reports to: Lead Teacher

Position Summary

The Teacher’s Assistant works in accordance with KYUMH agency policies and procedures to provide assistant administrative and educational services in the program classrooms.The Teacher’s Assistant will support the Lead and Secondary Teachers in either classroom asassigned, assisting clients with admission and discharge assessments, 1:1 assistance in classroom with clients as needed, and additional classroom and administrative tasks as assigned.

The Teachers Assistant models effective communication practices that uphold KYUMH’s Trauma-Informed Care culture and promote a safe, supportive, and respectful environment for youth and staff. This is a Spanish/English- bilingual position.

Essential Functions and Competencies

Educational Support Services

• Assist Lead and Secondary Teachers in delivering quality educational services and instructional support to all youth.
• Provide classroom assistance during instructional activities, individual learning support, and educational programming.
• Observe and monitor students’ academic progress, learning needs, and potential barriers to learning, communicating concerns to the Lead and Secondary Teachers.
• Administer educational admission and discharge assessment, utilizing interpretation services when necessary.
• Provide direct, child-facing educational services on-site during school hours.

Student Support and Cultural Responsiveness

• Demonstrate understanding and appreciation of cultural diversity and respond appropriately to the cultural, linguistic, and developmental needs of youth.
• Build supportive and professional relationships with students while promoting a safe and positive learning environment.

Documentation and Records Management

• Maintain complete, accurate, and organized educational records; assist with the timely transfer of educational files and documentation in accordance with program requirements and deadlines.
• Complete, maintain, and submit required educational and incident-related documentation in accordance with program, and licensing.

Program Operations and Compliance

• Assist with inventory management, organization, and maintenance of educational supplies and classroom materials.
• Demonstrate knowledge of KYUMH, policies, procedures, and regulations governing the care and supervision of youth.
• Promote safe practices, teamwork, accountability, and effective communication within the educational environment.
• Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, licensing, accreditation, and agency requirements.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, hours consistent with school operational hours or 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. for non-school days.

Required Education and Experience:

• High School diploma with minimum of 1 year of experience working with youth.
• Fluent in Spanish and English Languages-Preferred
  

Preferred Education and Experience:

• Experience working with diverse populations, including refugee and/or unaccompanied children and adolescents
• One-year related experience in an educational environment
• Office experience and proficient computer skills
  

Additional Requirements

• Maintain a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
• Submit to federal and state background and fingerprint checks.
• Submit to pre ‑ employment and random drug screenings.
• Maintain required trainings including CPR/First Aid and SCM trained.
• Maintain ORR ‑ required vaccinations.
