Are you passionate and enthusiastic about working with children in a team environment? Join our Early Head Start/Head Start team, providing early childhood education services. Penquis, a social services agency serving Penobscot, Piscataquis, and Knox counties for over 50 years, is currently seeking a full-time (40 hours per week; 42 weeks per year, benefits eligible) – Preschool (age 3-5) Teacher at our Venture Way Child Development location. You will develop and administer an appropriate daily activity program to meet the needs of the group and individual children.

Teacher Responsibilities

• Carry primary responsibility for the daily operation of a Penquis early education classroom, including serving as the primary contact between the center and families, gathering family information, identifying needs, making referrals, and providing opportunities for parent participation.
• Provide educational and supportive home visits to establish trusting relationships with eligible families.
• Oversee administrative and support functions for the center.
• Provide education and support services to families and promote parental involvement in curriculum planning and program governance.
• Maintain confidential client files.
• Supervise and evaluate assigned staff.

Teacher Requirements

• Associate degree in early childhood education, social services, or related field, with 1-2 years of related experience required. A Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Proficiency in computer skills, including word processing.
• Experience working with children aged birth to 5 years, managing typical noises and behaviors.
• Must pass background checks as per Penquis requirements.

Penquis Child Development will support staff in obtaining credentials or continuing education. The starting pay is $22.76/hour, with potential additional compensation based on experience. New employees working 24-40 hours per week will receive a monthly stipend based on MRTQ standards.
