Position Summary

The UNM-Valencia Campus Upward Bound Program is accepting applications for a Teacher, Pre‑College Programs (multiple positions). This grant‑funded, on‑call position oversees day‑to‑day aspects of the Upward Bound Program, including tutoring, leading workshops, teaching, and executing college preparation/academic lessons for high school students.

Locations and subject areas:

  • Los Lunas High School – Mathematics
  • Belen High School – Language Arts
  • Valencia High School – Mathematics and Language Arts

Responsibilities include tutoring and instructing during the academic year, supporting students in language arts or other pre‑college disciplines at area high schools and at UNM‑Valencia Campus, employing pedagogical practices to enhance academic progress, engaging students in college preparatory topics, and documenting student progress, attendance, and other tracking tasks.

UNM‑Valencia Campus is a two‑year branch campus located about 30 miles south of Albuquerque in rural Valencia County. It operates as a community college and is designated a Hispanic Serving Institution, serving a student body of over 2,000 students per semester.

Conditions of Employment
  • Must pass a pre‑employment criminal background check.
  • Elementary or secondary level teaching certification may be required for specified positions in this classification.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Completed degrees from an accredited institution above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year‑for‑year basis.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Two or more years of directly related experience
  • Experience working with at‑risk first‑gen students
  • Experience in curriculum planning and implementation of a program
  • Ability to tutor in Algebra and Geometry
Additional Requirements

Possess a valid driver's license or have reliable transportation to assigned work locations.
