Job Title: Teacher - Teacher of the Visually Impaired
Purpose Statement
The job of Teacher - Visually Impaired is done for the purpose/s of diagnosing children with a vision disability, determine how the disability interferes with learning, and then with parents design and implement a program, to teach students to read, write, problem solve, compute, find information, think, work cooperatively with others as well develop functional and independent living skills, and to meet all district-required curriculum objectives as per a child’s Individual Education Plan (IEP).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and solve practical problems. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: Braille transcription and print copy; and specialized Braille computer devices.
SKILLS are required to perform single, technical tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating equipment used in Braille transcription; operating standard office equipment including using pertinent software applications; and preparing and maintaining accurate records; problem solving skills, imagination, patience, reasoning, creativity, and judgment.
ABILITY is required to schedule activities; gather and/or collate data; and use job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined and similar processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals; work with similar types of data; and utilize job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data may require independent interpretation; and problem solving with equipment is limited to moderate. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adapting to changing work priorities; communicating effectively with children and adults; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships; maintaining confidentiality; and understanding the exceptional needs of special education students.

Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methods; leading, guiding, and/or coordinating others; operating within a defined budget. Work Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some climbing and balancing, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 50% sitting, 20% walking, 30% standing. The job is performed under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness and in a clean atmosphere.
