Music Teacher Grades PreK-2- must have endorsement required to teach Music Education PreK-12 or appropriate grade level

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Position is responsible for instructing students in the field of music and creating a safe and orderly learning environment. The teacher motivates students to develop an interest in and an appreciation of the art of music while fostering musical growth through developmentally appropriate practices and curriculum standards. This role develops the knowledge, skills, and talents of students in music by utilizing a variety of techniques tailored to their interests and abilities. Instruction includes singing, movement, rhythm, instrument exploration, and creative expression, all aimed at supporting foundational musical understanding in students from PreK through 2nd grade.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Holds a valid Virginia teaching license with an endorsement in Music Education PreK-12 or appropriate grade level
• Demonstrates knowledge of music education pedagogy appropriate for early childhood learners
• Ability to develop engaging, age-appropriate lessons integrating vocal, rhythmic, instrumental, and movement-based music experiences
• Skilled in classroom management strategies suited to young students
• Ability to move freely throughout instructional spaces to interact with and support students
• Ability to travel between schools if assigned to multiple locations
• Capable of preparing instructional plans and student performance documentation
• Demonstrates patience, enthusiasm, and effective communication with young children, colleagues, and families
• Proficient with instructional technology and digital tools that support music education
• Sufficient physical ability to assist with music activities and equipment (e.g., lift 50 pounds unassisted)
