Job description

TEACHER - MIDDLE SCHOOL 6-8 (any content area) - Allegan Online
Candidates may be elementary OR secondary certified as long as they have a middle school endorsement

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Effectively participate in educational planning
  • Select and maintain appropriate instructional programs, materials and supplies for classroom
  • Demonstrate effective instructional behaviors and techniques
  • Monitor and assist students’ progress towards taking the GED tests or earning a HS diploma
  • Demonstrate effective leadership and direction to classroom aide and other support staff involved with students
  • Effectively communicate, consult, and team with parents, staff, agencies, and others
  • Evaluate and track student progress and program effectiveness
  • Maintain student records, as required
  • Maintain contact with home regarding student progress and programming
  • Complete assigned responsibilities within agreed upon or established timelines.
  • Adhere to Allegan Public Schools’ policies and procedures
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the district

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education from an accredited college or university required
  • Valid Teaching Certificate - K-8 Subject Certification and/or 6-12 Subject Certification or on an alternative/path route to obtain the required endorsement(s).
  • Must be highly qualified as defined by the Michigan State Dept. of Education.
  • Teaches district approved curriculum
  • Experience working with at-risk youth
  • High degree of technology skills (Google Suite)
  • Desire to collaborate with peers and work as a team
  • Creates a safe and respectful classroom environment for all learners
  • Ability to plan and implement middle school curriculum and effectively provide support for online instructional platforms to all students
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional technology to engage all learners
  • Establishes and communicates clear objectives for all lessons and units
  • Uses a variety of formative and summative assessments
  • Takes a trauma-sensitive approach when working with students
  • Communicates professionally to students, parents/guardians, and colleagues
  • Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations
  • Other duties as assigned by building administrator

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently walking and standing. In addition, the employee may frequently bend or twist at the neck and back. Specific vision abilities required by this job include peripheral vision and close vision such as to read typewritten material. The employee may occasionally lift up to 25 pounds such as student equipment and wheelchairs.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Position is for the 25-26 school year. Wages, benefits, and work year as defined in the Teachers’ Master Agreement

SALARY: Commensurate with experience and background based upon Salary Schedule in the AEA Master Agreement

LOCATION: Allegan Online & Adult Education
