Primary Purpose:

Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the core academic subject area assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or training for the assigned subject and level (Special Education and Generalist)
  • Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned
  • ESL Certification preferred

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Knowledge of the core academic subject assigned
  • General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Experience:

  • At least one-year student teaching or approved internship
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Strategies
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the district’s curriculum requirements, with written evidence of preparation.
  • Prepare lessons accommodating different student learning styles.
  • Present subject matter according to guidelines by Texas Education Agency, policies, and regulations.
  • Use appropriate instructional strategies, activities, and materials tailored to students’ learning needs.
  • Assess student learning styles and use results for planning.
  • Collaborate with special education teachers to modify curricula for students with IEPs.
  • Coordinate with staff to set instructional goals, objectives, and methods.
  • Supervise teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s).
Student Growth and Development
  • Utilize technology to enhance teaching and learning.
  • Assist students in improving study methods and habits.
  • Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement.
  • Participate in extracurricular activities and sponsor approved outside activities.
  • Model positive behavior and support the school district’s mission.
Classroom Management and Organization
  • Create a conducive learning environment suitable for students’ development.
  • Manage student behavior per the Student Code of Conduct and handbook.
  • Ensure safety and proper care of equipment and materials.
  • Assist in selecting instructional resources.
  • Maintain open communication with parents, students, staff, and community members.
  • Maintain professional relationships and communicate effectively.
Professional Growth and Development
  • Engage in staff development activities.
  • Stay informed of regulations and policies.
  • Maintain records and reports.
  • Participate in faculty meetings and serve on committees.
Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervise assigned teacher aide(s).

Working Conditions:
