Job summary

Denver Public Schools is seeking a Long-Term Substitute to teach a Spanish Resource Classroom (Kindergarten–8th Grade) using district curriculum while the teacher is away. This is a temporary assignment covering an extended period.

The position offers $30.00 per hour, requires a Colorado teaching license (DPS may accept a CDE Application Receipt for 90 days) and a Bachelor’s in Education. Spanish language skills are highly preferred, and you must reside in Colorado.

Responsibilities

• Counsels students to encourage and support student achievement.
• Monitors, supervises, and enforces rules of conduct and behavior.
• Observes, evaluates, reports, and records student performance and development.
• Prepares educational course outlines, objectives, and materials per curriculum guidelines.
• Establishes clear objectives for lessons and projects and communicates them to students.
• Presents subject matter using various teaching methods and technology.
• Instructs students individually and in groups.
• Prepares, administers, and grades tests and assignments; reports grades using District software.
• Prepares attendance and activity reports as required by administrators.
• Communicates with parents/guardians and staff to support instructional efforts.

About This Job

A Long-Term Substitute is responsible for teaching appropriate grade level standard-based curriculum to students, following school/district approved curriculum while the classroom teacher is absent for an extended period of time. This position is covering for a Spanish Resource Classroom, Kindergarten - 8th Grade.

This is a temporary position with an expected end date of October 13, 2026.

What You'll Do

• Counsels students to encourage and support student achievement.
• Monitors, supervises, coordinates, and enforces rule of conduct and behavior of assigned students and reinforces positive student behaviors in accordance with school and District policy.
• Observes, evaluates, reports, and records students' performance, behavior, social development, and physical health.
• Prepares educational course outlines, objectives, and materials according to curriculum guidelines or state and local requirements.
• Establishes and communicates clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects to students.
• Presents subject matter to students, using various teaching methods and technology, adjusting teaching style and method to meet student learning style.
• Instructs students individually and in groups, using various teaching methods (e.g., lectures, technology, discussions).
• Prepares, administers, assigns, and grade tests and assignments to evaluate student progress, reporting grades using District software.
• Prepares student, attendance and activity reports as required by administrators.
• Communicates with parents or guardians, teachers, counselors, and administrators to resolve students' behavioral and academic problems and coordinates instructional efforts.

What You’ll Need

• Hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field.
• Have a valid Colorado Department of Education (CDE) teaching license. (DPS does accept a CDE Application Receipt for 90 days.)
• Spanish speaking skills highly preferred
