Position Summary

The UNC School of Education is seeking a UNC-Chapel Hill Carolina Community Academy Lab School Teacher. Depending on openings, you may serve in a classroom at kindergarten, first grade, or second grade. The position is ten-month, full-time, and housed on-site at the Carolina Community Academy starting August 4, 2025. Teachers report to the Carolina Community Academy Principal and may coordinate and direct activities of teacher assistants. Teachers will foster a culture of innovation to support effective instructional practices and collaborate with the Principal, UNC-Chapel Hill liaison, and university faculty/staff to support students’ social-emotional, physical, and academic development.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with others to facilitate and implement innovative instruction aligned with the school mission.
  • Work with the Carolina Community Academy Principal, liaison, and university partners to support student development.
  • Coordinate and direct activities of teacher assistants as applicable.
Minimum Education And Experience

Bachelor’s degree in elementary education; excellent oral and written communication; experience working with at-risk student populations. Degrees must be conferred by an accredited institution. A current North Carolina teaching license is required or the ability to obtain licensure in NC.

  • Respect confidentiality of student, family, and staff records; comply with ethics and laws.
  • Share responsibility for supervision of students during the school day.
  • Comply with state and federal education statutes, NC Code of Ethics for Educators, and NC Professional Teaching Standards.
  • Knowledge of public school and university partnerships; experience as a school-level mentor or clinical teacher is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, And Experience

Preference given to candidates with teaching experience in innovative and diverse schools with a track record of improving outcomes for all subgroups. UNC-Chapel Hill teacher education program graduates are preferred. Preference for experience with diverse student groups, curriculum integration across content, early literacy and numeracy, and social-emotional learning. Candidate should be self-directed, organized, innovative, technologically proficient, have strong interpersonal skills, be highly motivated, and open to innovative practices; able to work independently or collaboratively as needed.
