Job description

South Academy of International Languages (S.A.I.L.) is seeking a passionate and dedicated German Language Immersion Teacher for our elementary school program. The ideal candidate will be committed to fostering student growth, passionate about the German language and culture, able to communicate in German at the native or near-native level, and experienced in delivering transformative instruction in a full immersion environment. As a German Language Immersion Teacher, you will teach core subjects, including math, science, and social studies, aligned with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study (NC SCOS), entirely in German.

Responsibilities:
  • Curriculum and Instruction: Implement a comprehensive German language immersion curriculum for elementary students, aligned with North Carolina Curriculum standards. Deliver engaging, student-centered, and language-rich lessons across core subjects to facilitate language acquisition.
  • Differentiation and Student Support: Adapt teaching methods and materials to meet the diverse needs, interests, and language levels of students. Provide one-on-one support for students who require additional help. Foster an inclusive and respectful learning environment, encouraging all students to grow regardless of ability or background.
  • Classroom Management: Establish and communicate clear behavioral expectations and classroom rules. Maintain a positive and respectful classroom environment where students feel safe and valued. Manage student behavior proactively, ensuring a productive learning environment.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate closely with colleagues across grade levels and language tracks (French, Chinese, Japanese) to ensure cohesive educational experiences. Regularly communicate with parents to provide updates on student progress, discuss academic needs, and foster a collaborative learning environment. Lead parent-teacher meetings to discuss student development and needs.
  • Assessment and Evaluation: Track and evaluate student academic progress through various assessments, including tests, quizzes, essays, and projects. Help students improve study methods and habits through constructive feedback.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field.
  • Fluency in German, with familiarity with German culture. Candidates should meet the standard of advanced-mid on the ACTFL OPI or C-level via Goethe.
  • Prior teaching experience and elementary teaching certification preferred.
  • Prior teaching experience required for potential visa support.
  • Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with colleagues and parents.
  • Willingness to pursue teaching certification if not already certified.
