Job summary

Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 12 units of Childhood Education / Child Development units and related courses including six units in core courses.
  • Minimum 6 months experience supervising and providing instruction to children.
  • Current Pediatric CPR and First Aid Certification and Health & Safety Class within 3 months.
  • Immunization record with influenza vaccine/waiver, Tdap, and MMR.
  • CDSS Mandated Reporter training within first month of employment.
  • Criminal clearance including fingerprints.
  • Health exam with negative TB test and negative drug screening.
  • Complete all required online trainings.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direction for program participants and implement curriculum.
  • Plan and implement developmentally appropriate program activities.
  • Model and promote positive behavior and resolve conflicts.
  • Maintain communication with parents and staff.
  • Assist with health checks and keeping portfolios/ records.
  • Present subject matter using varied teaching methods.
  • Monitor classroom and activities throughout the day.
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent
12 units of Childhood Education / Child Development
6 months supervising and instructing children
Current Pediatric CPR and First Aid Certification
Health & Safety Class within first 3 months
Immunization record: Influenza/waiver, Tdap, MMR
CDSS Mandated Reporter training within first month
Criminal Clearance including fingerprints
Health Exam Screening with neg TB and drug test
Complete all required online trainings

Job description

Position Summary:

Provides direction for the program participants and Implements program curriculum in the classroom. Provides a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on the YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.

Essential Functions:
  • Support in planning and implementing a developmentally appropriate program for children and families to include environment, curriculum, and materials, which meet State and Licensing requirements.
  • Model and promote positive behavior, attitude and language while developing positive conflict resolution skills among children, parents and staff. Maintains open lines of communication with parents, staff and administration.
  • Knowledge of and experience with child development theory to create a culturally sensitive environment that is child oriented to promote children's optimal development.
  • Assist with maintaining children's portfolios and making anecdotal observations and records.
  • Staff are to conduct health a check of children at the time of arrival to the program.
  • Present subject matter to students; utilizing variety of methods and techniques such as lecture, discussion and supervised role-play in a positive environment.
  • Monitor the children, classroom, and their activities.
  • Maintains communication with parents, and engages parents as volunteers, and supervisor.
  • Attend all staff meetings, trainings and other YMCA functions as required by Supervisor.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Additional Job Specific Duties:
  • Support in planning and implementing appropriate programming, which meet state and licensing requirements.
  • Model and promote positive behavior.
  • Supervising children in an indoor outdoor setting.
  • Maintain Communication with parents and school faculty (if needed)

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 6 months experience supervising and providing Instruction to children in a childcare setting. Experience working with diverse population preferred.
  • Current Pediatric CPR and First Aid Certification and Health & Safety Class required within first 3 months of employment.
  • Immunization record: Influenza or waiver, Tdap(Pertussls), and MMR(Measles)
  • CDSS Mandated Reported (AB 1207) training required within first month of employment.
  • Criminal Clearance: Including fingerprints
  • Health Exam Screening with Neg TB test and Negative Drug test screening.
  • Complete all required online training(s).
Working Conditions:

Environmental Factors: Indoor and outdoor facilities (e.g. childcare and recreational sites); exposure to heat, cold, potentially hazardous chemicals, toxic materials; work on slippery or uneven surfaces. Noise level is usually moderate.
