Job summary

Howard County Public School System in Maryland seeks a Teacher Elementary Student Engagement to provide case management and MTSS-based interventions for students eligible for engagement services. The role collaborates with school staff to deliver targeted supports and professional development in SEL and trauma-informed practices.

You will support teachers, coordinate resources, and help implement SSPs and 504 plans while contributing to a positive school climate and student success.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in an applicable field of education.
• Meets Maryland State Department of Education licensure requirements for Early Childhood Education Pre K-3 and Elementary Education 1-6.
• Meets Maryland licensure requirements for Generic Special Education Infant-3 and Generic Special Education 1-8.
• Three previous years of teaching experience (preferred).
• Advanced Degree or specialized training in behavioral support, child-development, or related field (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Provide case management of students identified for Student Engagement Services within MTSS.
• Participate in SST, IIT, FBA, 504 Team and other teams to support staff, students and families.
• Support school-wide Social-Emotional Learning implementation and direct SEL instruction.
• Plan and deliver professional development on SEL, community, belonging, and trauma-informed approaches.
• Provide SST consultation, observe classrooms, and give feedback on classroom practices.
• Monitor student progress and fidelity of SSPs, BIPs, and 504 Plans.
• Provide supplemental academic support through push-in, small groups, or pull-out sessions.
• Assist in crisis intervention and de-escalation as needed.
• Support PBIS and Restorative Justice initiatives and climate improvement.

These include, but are not limited to, providing interventions and resources through participation in the Student Support Team (SST), participation in the instructional intervention team (IIT), Functional Behavior Assessment team (FBA), instructional leadership teams and 504 Team, as appropriate.* Support school-wide Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) implementation, including support to teachers with daily SEL activities, facilitating small group targeted interventions, and providing direct SEL instruction to students identified as needing targeted skill development.* Plan and deliver professional development to staff related to techniques to address the needs of students, including topics around social-emotional learning, community building and belonging, culturally responsive teaching and trauma informed approaches.* Provide SST consultation for students identified for additional school supports, including observation of students and classrooms to provide input and feedback regarding classroom best practices, student supports, and support plan development and implementation.* Monitor student progress and the fidelity of implementation of support strategies, SSPs, Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) and 504 Plans.* Provide supplemental academic support to students through classroom push-in, small group and/or individual pull-out to pre-teach or reteach content and/or concepts.* Collaborate with SST to provide crisis intervention support to students, including de-escalation techniques, self-regulation strategies and responsive support.* Support implementation of school-wide climate and culture initiatives in accordance with the priorities of the School Improvement Plan, including Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and Restorative Justice.* Maintain required documentation including student progress data tracking and reporting, program implementation (e.g., midyear and yearly reports, data surveys), and SSPs Plan and deliver professional development to staff related to techniques to address the needs of students, including topics around social-emotional learning, community building and belonging, culturally responsive teaching and trauma informed approaches.**SELECTION CRITERIA**Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be included in further evaluation. Interviews will be limited to those applicants who, in addition to meeting the basic requirements, have experience and education which most closely match the position qualifications and the needs of the school system.**EMPLOYMENT INFORMATION****Compensation**This is a 10-month per year position in the Howard County Educators Association (HCEA) employee bargaining unit. The current salary range for this position are on the 10- Month Teacher Salary scale. Actual placement will be in accordance with the salary procedures of the Howard County Public School System and the HCEA Master Agreement which considers education and relevant prior experience. Under the Fair Labor Standards Act, this position is exempt from overtime.**Retirement**Membership in the Maryland State Retirement Agency (MSRA) pension plan is a mandatory condition of employment for all employees who meet the eligibility and membership criteria defined in the State Personnel and Pensions Article and the Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR). A qualifying employee cannot reject membership, nor can an ineligible employee elect membership.
