Job summary

Garfield Park Behavioral Hospital is seeking a Clinical Educator to participate in educational assessments and provide instruction to children and adolescents in a structured classroom setting.

Responsibilities include curriculum development, contributing to treatment planning, maintaining patient records, and ensuring a safe environment while collaborating with the Academy team.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s Degree required, Masters preferred.
• Experience: One year teaching ED/BD children and/or adolescents preferred.
• Licensure/Certification: Valid PEL, Illinois teaching certificate required; certification in Special Education preferred.
• Knowledge: Understanding of growth and development, educational strategies for special education population, classroom management, crisis and behavior management.

Job Summary

Participates in ongoing educational assessments of patients. Provides instruction to patients while maintaining an orderly and disciplined structure in the classroom. Develops special interventions for patients unable to function within the classroom setting. Assists in curriculum development. Participates in patient treatment planning and staffings when necessary. Understands the basic growth and development milestones with appropriate interventions specific to the age and population served. Completes patient lesson plans. Completes and maintains all records as required. Maintains an adequate supply of appropriate instructional materials relative to patient’s age and functioning level. Participates in case management activities as required. Assures the maintenance of a safe and sanitary environment.

• Working Conditions: Exposure to psychiatric patients who may exhibit violent/aggressive behavior. Potential for exposure to communicable diseases, blood/body fluids and other hazardous waste. General hospital environment.
• Physical Requirements: Ability to communicate verbally and in writing. Physical agility to manage patients. Push, pull and lift up to 50 pounds. Intermittent sitting, standing, walking, bending, reaching and stooping
