Job summary

Lincolnton Middle School is seeking a Teacher of Exceptional Children (EC-General). The position is a 10-month, full-time role located at Lincolnton Middle School.

The teacher will be responsible for planning and delivering instruction, developing IEP-based goals, and collaborating with families and staff to support EC students’ progress.

Qualifications

• Must hold or be eligible to hold a North Carolina teaching license in appropriate licensure area.
• Praxis II subject assessment is required for EC or corresponding content licensure before employment.
• Bachelor’s degree required; licensure must align with EC General, ELA, or Math content areas.

Responsibilities

• Instruct and assess individual students and groups based on the North Carolina Standard Course of Study.
• Develop lesson plans to support EC students’ academic, behavioral, and social goals per IEPs.
• Maintain accurate records and documentation for Special Education services.

Job Description

Position: Teacher of Exceptional Children, Multiple Positions

Location: Lincolnton Middle School

Terms of Contract: 10 Months, full-time, benefit eligible

Reports To: Principal

Monthly Salary: Teacher State Salary Schedule (plus local supplement)

FLSA: EXEMPT

Qualifications/Requirements: Must hold or be eligible to hold a North Carolina teaching license in appropriate licensure area. EC General Licensure or English/ Language Arts Licensure or Math Content areas. Qualifying for a lateral entry license for Exceptional Children requires prior to employment, the Praxis II subject assessment and at least a bachelor’s degree.

Must be Highly Qualified in All Academic Areas.

Goal: To provide each special needs student with the individually tailored help, counsel, and learning experience he/she needs to make progress toward educational goals established with the student’s limitations in mind.

Duties:

• Instruct and assess individual students and groups based on the North Carolina Standard Course of Study
• Develop lesson plans to assist EC students appropriate academic, behavioral, and social skills in accordance with IEP goals
• Demonstrate knowledge of educational and exceptional children laws, rules, regulations, practices and trends
• Demonstrate knowledge of educational curricula, instructional methodology and techniques, technology, cognitive development of students and integration of these to promote student success
• Demonstrate knowledge of the traits and characteristics of various disabilities
• Extensive maintenance of accurate records on a timely basis
• Compile a variety of records, reports, and documentary forms for Special Education services on a timely basis
• Gather and record data on student progress toward academic and behavioral goals on the IEP on a timely basis
• Develop and implement the IEP in classroom settings that are compatible with the student's age and developmental level
• Must be self-motivated, self-directed, collaborative, and flexible
• Establish and maintain working relationships with parents, students, teachers, staff, and administrators
• Must be able to perform heavy work exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of forces frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to lift objects
• Other duties as assigned
