Job summary

YMCA of Greater Seattle is seeking a part-time Teacher, Early Learning Seattle Preschool Program to lead classrooms and implement activities for the Seattle Preschool Program. Schedule is typically Monday–Friday 1:00–6:00 p.m., with occasional evenings, in-service days, and Saturdays.

You'll receive YMCA membership, mental health resources, paid time off, and program discounts. Hiring range is $22.00–$25.00 per hour with DOE.

Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • At least 1 year of classroom experience with children kindergarten age and younger.
  • AA in ECE or CDA or 20 hours ECE credits; other relevant education/experience welcome.
  • Current state approved first-aid certification.
  • Current state approved infant/child CPR certification.
  • TB tests and MMR vaccination required; Concentra options provided.
  • HIV/AIDS training certification.
  • STARS training completed within 90 days and again within six months of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise a group of children to ensure health and safety.
  • Plan and implement culturally relevant activities aligned with Youth Development goals.
  • May guide staff/volunteers overseeing child activities.
  • Assist Lead Teacher with City of Seattle contract requirements.
  • Communicate day-to-day with parents/guardians.
  • Follow YMCA safety and abuse prevention policies.
  • May fill in for Lead Teacher during short-term absences.
  • Maintain classroom appearance, decor and cleanliness.
  • Prepare and serve snacks and clean snack area.
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Summary

The Teacher, Early Learning Seattle Preschool Program provides classroom leadership in a Seattle Preschool Program, implementing the activities and curriculum for the classroom and supervising a group of children. The ideal schedule is Monday - Friday 1:00 - 6:00 p.m. with occasional evenings, all day in-service days and Saturdays. What you'll get from working at The Y:

Hiring Range: $22.00 - $25.00 / hourly DOE

Responsibilities
  • Supervises a group of children to ensure their health and safety and to provide for a positive experience for each child.
  • Assists in planning and implementing culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate activities within the curriculum in accordance with the Youth Development goals of the YMCA.
  • May provide guidance to staff/volunteers overseeing the activities of groups of children.
  • Supports Lead Teacher in meeting the contract requirements, deadlines, and deliverables of the program associated with the City of Seattle contracts.
  • Professionally communicates day-to-day, confidential and evaluative information with parents/guardians.
  • Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergency procedures.
  • May fill-in for the Lead Teacher during short-term absences.
  • Assists in maintaining developmentally appropriate classroom including appearance, décor, and cleanliness of site.
  • May prepare and serve snacks. Cleans snack area.
  • Attends staff meetings and trainings as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

All employees and volunteers are responsible for adhering to abuse prevention policies, maintaining appropriate boundaries, completing required training, reporting suspicious or inappropriate behavior, and complying with mandated reporting requirements.

Responsible for ensuring staff are properly screened, trained, supervised and held accountable to the organization's abuse risk management standards.

Qualifications
  • 18 years of age or older.
  • One (1) year or more of experience working in a classroom environment with children kindergarten aged and younger.
  • Candidate must have an Associate of Arts (AA) degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE), or Child Development Associates Degree (CDA), or 20 hours of ECE college credits. Other applicable education, training, and experience, which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position will be considered.
  • Current state approved first-aid certification.*
  • Current state approved infant/child (or community if school aged) CPR certification.*
  • We require pre-employment TB tests and MMR vaccination. To make this process convenient for our new hires, we offer Concentra options at no cost to you.
  • HIV/AIDS training certification.*
  • Completion of minimum STARS required training. **
  • At hire, or earliest possible training (but no later than 90 days after employment.)
  • At hire, or earliest possible training (but no later than six months after employment.)

  • Prefer knowledge of and previous experience with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.).
  • Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful.
