Job Summary:

The Early Head Start Teacher is responsible for planning, supervising, and implementing a developmentally appropriate early childhood program that addresses the social, emotional, intellectual, and physical needs of infants and toddlers in the Early Head Start Program. Services are offered in partnership with Head Start/Early Head Start staff specializing in Health, Family Engagement, Disabilities, and Behavioral Health.

Essential Duties (may include but are not limited to):
  1. Plans individual and group activities to promote growth in all domains, aligned with Head Start standards, Early Learning Outcomes Framework, Michigan Early Learning Standards, and Creative Curriculum. Activities are play-based and student interest-driven.
  2. Develops and utilizes instructional materials suitable for infants and toddlers, aligned with Creative Curriculum.
  3. Plans activities based on student goals in IFSP or IEP for students with disabilities.
  4. Ensures outdoor experiences of at least 60 minutes daily, following Michigan’s childcare licensing rules and district policies.
  5. Maintains confidentiality of students and families, respecting cultural backgrounds, and also maintains confidentiality among staff and in the workplace.
  6. Uses developmental screenings and observations to assess student growth and inform instruction.
  7. Analyzes data for planning and reporting purposes.
  8. Creates a nurturing, responsive environment to foster positive behavior and social skills.
  9. Assesses family needs and conducts home visits and parent-teacher conferences as required.
  10. Creates engaging learning environments with displays, interest centers, and student work exhibits.
  11. Provides data-driven instruction tailored to individual student needs across various developmental domains.
  12. Documents attendance and student progress using Child Plus and other applications.
  13. Assists with health, personal care routines, and follows CACFP regulations during mealtimes.
  14. Coordinates classroom activities and supports staff and volunteers, including training.
  15. Communicates regularly with families regarding educational goals and supports family involvement.
  16. Participates in staff meetings, professional development, and team collaborations.
  17. Supervises students actively and implements social-emotional strategies and PBIS consistently.
  18. Works collaboratively with other staff and uses Restorative Practices for conflict resolution.
  19. Engages in professional growth cycles, including evaluations and development plans.
  20. Follows district standards of conduct and models leadership behaviors.
  21. Operates standard school equipment and maintains a professional appearance and demeanor.
Other Duties:

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education: Must hold an Infant/Toddler CDA. A Bachelor’s degree in Elementary or Early Childhood Education with relevant credentials or coursework, or an Associate’s degree with infant/toddler coursework, is preferred.

Experience: Minimum of two years in an early childhood setting, preferably with infants and toddlers.

Skills/Other: Strong record-keeping, technology proficiency, positive relationship-building, punctuality, teamwork, discretion, physical stamina, and professionalism are required. Ability to pass background checks, possess a valid Michigan driver’s license, and travel as needed.

Special Job Considerations:

Certification in Infant/Toddler CDA preferred. This is a contracted, grant-funded position, 40 hours/week, with wages starting at $17.74 to $25.51 per hour depending on qualifications. Benefits include full family health, dental, and vision insurance.
