Norwalk Public Schools in Silvermine Elementary School is seeking a full-time Dual Language Kindergarten teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. Job description

Teacher – Dual Language – Kindergarten (2026-2027 SY)

Location: Silvermine Elementary School

Schedule: August – June (Monday – Friday)

Position Description

This will be a full-time dual-language teacher who will teach multiple social studies classes, integrated with Spanish Language Arts in the target language. The teacher will team with the other dual language teachers who teach Native Spanish and social studies.

Responsibilities
  • Teach identified subjects in Spanish, maintaining the target language in an immersion setting.
  • Collaborate with the English partner teacher to develop and implement a team teaching model.
  • Follow the scope and sequence of the instructional program as defined and approved by the Norwalk Board of Education and Biliteracy Unit Frameworks.
  • Manage the classroom and individual student behavior utilizing a restorative practices approach to maintain an advantageous learning environment.
  • Prepare lesson plans in collaboration with the team that achieve clear language and content objectives, use appropriate SIOP and biliteracy techniques, and serve the needs of all learners in the classroom.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records as required.
  • Conduct parent/teacher conferences with partner teacher(s).
  • Design clear and specific learning assessments that capitalize on emergent bilinguals' abilities.
  • Work with the partner teacher to holistically assess emergent bilinguals' progress in both languages on an ongoing basis and identify areas of intervention, if needed.
  • Use interim reports, report cards, and/or conferences to keep parents up-to-date regarding student progress in both languages.
  • Plan whole group, small group, and individualized instruction to foster academic, social, emotional, and cultural growth.
  • Maintain a positive learning environment that encourages open communication between the teacher and learner.
  • Maintain a positive school community image that encourages ethical student behavior through the implementation of the PBIS framework.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with parents in either English or Spanish.
  • Assist in the selection of textbooks, equipment and other education materials.
  • Accommodate visitors to the classroom as a dual language model classroom.
  • Establish and maintain professional relationships.
  • Participate in professional learning by attending seminars and workshops to improve biliteracy instructional practices and positively affect student achievement.

Qualifications
  • CSD Active Bilingual PK-8 Education 902 AND CSD Active 305 Elementary, Connecticut State Department of Education.
  • Must be fluent in Spanish and English.
  • Experience in a dual language program preferred.
