The job of a 0.4 Biology Teacher involves planning, organizing, and implementing an appropriate instructional program within a learning environment that encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)
- Plan, prepare, and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences.
- Develop schemes of work and lesson plans.
- Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
- Prepare the classroom for class activities.
- Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for educational activities.
- Identify and select different instructional resources and methods to meet students' varying needs.
- Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment.
- Use relevant technology to support instruction.
- Observe and evaluate students' performance and development.
- Assign and grade class work, homework, tests, and assignments.
- Provide appropriate feedback on student work.
- Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students.
- Maintain accurate and complete records of students' progress and development.
- Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws, district policies, and school regulations.
- Prepare required reports on students and activities.
- Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures.
- Maintain discipline in accordance with school rules and disciplinary systems.
- Apply appropriate disciplinary measures where necessary.
- Perform pastoral duties such as student support, counseling students with academic problems, and providing encouragement.
- Participate in extracurricular activities including social events, sports, clubs, and student organizations.
- Attend department and school meetings, including parent meetings.
- Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues, and parents regarding student progress and needs.
- Stay updated with developments in the subject area, teaching resources, and methods, and incorporate relevant changes into instructional plans and activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution.
- Meet professional teacher education requirements of the school district and state.
- Single subject teaching credential or certification if teaching a specialized subject.
- State certification.
- Relevant teaching experience.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Positions typically require physical activities such as stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
Incumbents may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, odors, chemicals, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, and intense noises.
