Job summary

Spring ISD is seeking an AVID Teacher for Bailey Middle School in Spring, TX. The role focuses on delivering AVID-aligned instruction, fostering college and career readiness, and supporting a culture of high expectations across the campus.

The teacher will implement AVID strategies, manage student learning, analyze performance data, and collaborate with staff to ensure fidelity to the AVID program. Immediate start for the 2026-2027 school year.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate (grades 6-8).
  • Five years’ successful classroom experience (preferred).
  • Leadership experience at the campus or district level (preferred).
  • Experience as an academic coach or specialist (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver standards-based instruction aligned with TEKS and AVID curriculum.

JOB TITLE: AVID TEACHER

PAY GRADE: Teacher Salary Scale

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Provide students with rigorous, engaging instruction while implementing the principles and methodologies of the Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program. Foster college and career readiness by developing students' academic, organizational, communication, and critical thinking skills through the implementation of AVID strategies, the AVID elective curriculum, and schoolwide instructional best practices. Collaborate with campus staff to support a college-going culture and ensure fidelity to the AVID program.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate grade 6-8

Preferred:

  • Five years’ successful classroom experience
  • Leadership experience at the campus level and/or district level
  • Successful experience working as an academic coach or specialist
  • Knowledge of the thirteen (13) state-defined at-risk indicators
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
  • Knowledge of AVID philosophy, methodologies, and instructional strategies
  • Ability to create an engaging, student-centered learning environment
  • Strong classroom management and instructional planning skills
  • Knowledge of college and career readiness standards
  • Ability to analyze student performance data and implement instructional interventions
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate with teachers, administrators, parents, and community partners
  • Proficiency with instructional technology and digital learning platforms
  • Advanced organizational skills in planning, goal setting, time management and prioritizing
  • Ability to collect, analyze and interpret data
  • Excellent organization, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Detail oriented and able to handle deadline pressures
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
  • Plan and deliver standards-based instruction aligned with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and the AVID curriculum.
  • Implement AVID instructional methodologies including Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading (WICOR).
  • Design lessons that promote higher-order thinking, student engagement, and academic rigor.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse academic and social-emotional needs of students.
  • Teach the AVID elective course utilizing the AVID curriculum with fidelity.
  • Facilitate tutorials using AVID tutorial processes to strengthen student learning and critical thinking.
  • Teach organizational, note-taking, study, goal-setting, and time-management skills.
  • Encourage students to enroll in rigorous coursework and prepare for college and career success.
  • Create a positive, inclusive classroom environment that promotes student achievement and personal responsibility.
  • Monitor student academic progress, attendance, and behavior.
  • Assist students in setting academic and personal goals and developing plans for success.
  • Provide mentoring and guidance to students regarding college and career opportunities.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress.
  • Coordinate or assist with college visits, guest speakers, career exploration activities, and student recognition events.
  • Share AVID instructional strategies and best practices with campus staff.
  • Participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and campus committees.
  • Assists in ensuring at-risk students develop and meet their personal graduation plans.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned
WORKING CONDITIONS:

The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: physical mobility, standing, prolonged sitting, some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling. This position will also require both traveling within the district and state wide. Mental demands: Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of situations; ability to interpret a variety of data; ability to interpret TEC and policy; ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory, ability to be effective in both oral and written communication; ability to maintain emotional control under stress.
