Job Description

Teacher, Autism Support (Middle School: Grades 7-8)

Summary

The Autism Support Teacher will develop and implement an effective educational program for students in the Autism Support program, assist classroom teachers in developing plans and strategies for student success, and design activities that modify the general curriculum to meet students’ needs.

Job Responsibilities
  1. Assist classroom teachers with instructional strategies to facilitate inclusion.
  2. Complete all necessary special education forms.
  3. Monitor and assess student progress through data collection.
  4. Coordinate and facilitate parent meetings.
  5. Manage student behavior effectively and calmly.
  6. Implement empirically supported behavioral interventions.
  7. Establish a positive instructional environment reinforcing appropriate behavior.
  8. Develop instructional activities aligned with students’ IEP goals.
  9. Submit reports timely for IEP reviews.
  10. Enforce school codes of conduct and policies.
  11. Promote citizenship and serve as a role model.
  12. Maintain confidentiality of student information.
  13. Perform additional duties as assigned.
  14. Adhere to school policies and procedures.
Qualifications
  1. Four-year college degree and PA Special Education (PK-12) Teacher Certification; Autism endorsement preferred.
  2. Experience with Verbal Behavior Program preferred.
  3. Proven ability to impact student achievement as a special education teacher.
  4. Ability to prioritize and adapt to change.
  5. Excellent communication skills.
  6. Knowledge of current teaching methods and differentiated instruction.
  7. Basic computer skills.
  8. Clearances: Criminal Background, Child Abuse, FBI Fingerprint within one year.
  9. Eligibility for employment in a PA Public School.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
  • Ability to sit and stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, climb stairs, reach overhead.
  • Occasionally lift/move up to 25 pounds.
  • Noise level usually mild to moderate.
