YAI is seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to support students with brain injuries or brain-based disabilities. You will coteach with classroom teachers, deliver lessons, and provide instructional and behavioral management support.

You will work under the Director of Education, in a role that includes substitute teaching, collaboration with therapy teams, and active communication with parents and staff. The position requires flexibility and strong interpersonal skills.

Qualificações

• Associate degree or NYSED Level III TA certification required or equivalent.
• Excellent interpersonal, problem solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to take initiative and be highly flexible.

Responsabilidades

• Collaborate with classroom teacher to support students and coteach.
• Provide instructional and behavioral management support to students.
• Work with students in small and large groups and individually under supervision of the Director of Education.
• Assist in lesson planning and deliver lessons to students.
• Provide classroom coverage as a substitute teacher when needed.
• Communicate with parents, staff and administration as appropriate.
• Supervise paraprofessionals in the classroom and support team planning.
• Coordinate with iHOPE therapy team to implement recommendations in class.
• Set up, clean and maintain classroom equipment and supplies.
• Participate in IEP meetings when necessary and share student information as needed.

Key/Essential Functions & Responsibilities

• Collaborates with classroom teacher in performance of teaching functions providing support to students and coteaching.
• Provides instructional and behavioral management support to students.
• Works with children in small and large group settings, as well as individually, under the supervision of the Director of Education.
• Participates in lesson planning process, preparing and/or delivering lessons to students both individually and in small groups.
• Provides classroom coverage as a substitute teacher as needed, overseeing and leading lessons for various classrooms of 6 to 8school-aged children with brain injuries or brain-based disabilities in absence of classroom teacher.
• Communicates with parents, staff and administration, as appropriate.
• Provides direction, support and supervision to the paraprofessionals in the classroom.
• Collaborates in the planning and implementation of a supportive and challenging developmentally appropriate program.
• Collaborates with each student’s iHOPE therapy team as necessary and appropriate, implementing therapy recommendations in the classroom accordingly to support optimal treatment of the student.
• Participates in setting up, cleaning and maintaining classroom equipment and supplies.
• May participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings, when necessary and appropriate and/or provide information to classroom teacher and/or director regarding students as needed.
• Performs all other duties, as assigned

Minimum Qualification Requirements

including education, experience, licensure/certification, etc. and essential physical capabilities (e.g. lifting, assisting lifting, standing, etc.)

• Associate’s degree preferably in education-related field; or
• Current certificate and registration as a Level III Teaching Assistant issued by the New York State Education Department; or
• Satisfactory equivalent combination of education, experience and/or training; and
• Exhibits exceptional interpersonal, problem solving, and communication skills
• Exhibits the ability to take initiative
• Highly flexible personality type

Preferred Qualification Requirements

(desired requirements beyond MQRs above)

• Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field
• Two (2) years of experience in an educational setting
• Current enrollment in a New York State registered Master’s Program for Special Education Teacher’s Certificate (or equivalent)

Compensation starts at $25 per hour
