Job summary

YAI - Seeing beyond disability is seeking a dedicated instructional assistant to support students with brain injuries or brain-based disabilities. You will co-teach with the classroom teacher and provide instructional and behavioral management support in both small and large groups, including individual sessions.

You will participate in lesson planning, cover classes when needed, and communicate with parents and staff.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree (education-related) or equivalent.
  • New York State Level III Teaching Assistant certificate or equivalent.
  • Master’s Program enrollment in Special Education required or in progress.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with classroom teacher to support students and co-teach.
  • Provides instructional and behavioral management support in small and large groups and individually.
  • Participates in lesson planning and may deliver lessons to students.
  • Provides classroom coverage as a substitute teacher as needed.
  • Communicates with parents, staff and administration as appropriate.
  • Supervises and supports paraprofessionals in the classroom.
  • Collaborates with iHOPE therapy team to implement therapy recommendations.
  • Assists with setup, cleanup and maintenance of classroom equipment and supplies.

If you are a current YAI employee, please click this link to apply through your Workday account.Key/Essential Functions & ResponsibilitiesCollaborates with classroom teacher in performance of teaching functions providing support to students and coteaching.Provides instructional and behavioral management support to students.Works with children in small and large group settings, as well as individually, under the supervision of the Director of Education.Participates in lesson planning process, preparing and/or delivering lessons to students both individually and in small groups.Provides classroom coverage as a substitute teacher as needed, overseeing and leading lessons for various classrooms of 6 to 8 school-aged children with brain injuries or brain-based disabilities in absence of classroom teacher.Communicates with parents, staff and administration, as appropriate.Provides direction, support and supervision to the paraprofessionals in the classroom.Collaborates in the planning and implementation of a supportive and challenging developmentally appropriate program.Collaborates with each student’s iHOPE therapy team as necessary and appropriate, implementing therapy recommendations in the classroom accordingly to support optimal treatment of the student.Participates in setting up, cleaning and maintaining classroom equipment and supplies.May participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings, when necessary and appropriate and/or provide information to classroom teacher and/or director regarding students as needed.Performs all other duties, as assignedMinimum Qualification Requirements including education, experience, licensure/certification, etc. and essential physical capabilities (e.g. lifting, assisting lifting, standing, etc.)Associate’s degree preferably in education-related field; orCurrent certificate and registration as a Level III Teaching Assistant issued by the New York State Education Department ; orSatisfactory equivalent combination of education, experience and/or training; andExhibits exceptional interpersonal, problem solving, and communication skillsExhibits the ability to take initiativeHighly flexible personality typePreferred Qualification Requirements ( desired requirements beyond MQRs above)B achelor’s degree in education or a related fieldTwo (2) years of experience in an educational settingCurrent enrollment in a New York State registered Master’s Program for Special Education Teacher’s Certificate (or equivalent)Compensation:$53,900-61,600 SalaryAll qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, or status as a Vietnam or disabled veteran.
