Job summary

YAI - Seeing beyond disability is seeking a Teacher (Associate) to support special education students in a classroom setting in Manhattan. The role involves collaborating with the classroom teacher to deliver lessons, manage behavior, and provide instructional support to students with brain injuries or brain-based disabilities.

The ideal candidate may hold an Associate degree (or NYS Level III Teaching Assistant certification) with strong interpersonal, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree preferably in education-related field; or NYS Level III Teaching Assistant certification.
• Satisfactory equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.

Responsibilities

• Collaborates with classroom teacher in performance of teaching functions and provides support to students.
• Provides instructional and behavioral management support to students.
• Works with children in small and large groups and individually.
• Prepares and delivers lessons in cooperation with teachers.
• Provides substitute classroom coverage and leads lessons.
• Communicates with parents, staff and administration as appropriate.
• Provides direction and supervision to paraprofessionals.
• Collaborates on planning and implementing a supportive developmentally appropriate program.
• Coordinates with iHOPE therapy team to implement therapy recommendations.
• Assists with setup, cleaning, and maintenance of classroom equipment and supplies.
• May participate in IEP meetings and provide information to teachers/director.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.

## Teacher (Associate) - Special EducationApplylocations: Manhattantime type: Full timeposted on: Posted Todayjob requisition id: R025375If you are a current YAI employee, please click this link to apply through your Workday account.**Key/Essential Functions & Responsibilities*** Collaborates with classroom teacher in performance of teaching functions providing support to students and coteaching.* Provides instructional and behavioral management support to students.* Works with children in small and large group settings, as well as individually, under the supervision of the Director of Education.* Participates in lesson planning process, preparing and/or delivering lessons to students both individually and in small groups.* Provides classroom coverage as a substitute teacher as needed, overseeing and leading lessons for various classrooms of 6 to 8 school-aged children with brain injuries or brain-based disabilities in absence of classroom teacher.* Communicates with parents, staff and administration, as appropriate.* Provides direction, support and supervision to the paraprofessionals in the classroom.* Collaborates in the planning and implementation of a supportive and challenging developmentally appropriate program.* Collaborates with each student’s iHOPE therapy team as necessary and appropriate, implementing therapy recommendations in the classroom accordingly to support optimal treatment of the student.* Participates in setting up, cleaning and maintaining classroom equipment and supplies.* May participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings, when necessary and appropriate and/or provide information to classroom teacher and/or director regarding students as needed.* Performs all other duties, as assigned**Minimum Qualification Requirements** *including education, experience, licensure/certification, etc. and essential physical capabilities (e.g. lifting, assisting lifting, standing, etc.)** Associate’s degree preferably in education-related field; or* Current certificate and registration as a Level III Teaching Assistant issued by the New York State Education Department; or* Satisfactory equivalent combination of education, experience and/or training; and* Exhibits exceptional interpersonal, problem solving, and communication skills* Exhibits the ability to take initiative* Highly flexible personality type**Preferred Qualification Requirements** *(desired requirements beyond MQRs above)** Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field* Two (2) years of experience in an educational setting* Current enrollment in a New York State registered Master’s Program for Special Education Teacher’s Certificate (or equivalent)**Compensation:**$53,900-61,600 SalaryAll qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, or status as a Vietnam or disabled veteran.
