Reports To: K-8 Director

Position Type: Full-Time, Non-Exempt

Bentley School is a K-12 co-educational, independent day school located on two campuses in Oakland (K-8) and Lafayette (9-12), California. Responsibilities

Responsibilities for this position will include, but are not limited to:

  • Supporting the grade-level lead teacher(s) in all aspects of the school day
  • Create and maintain a positive and safe learning environment where students thrive academically
  • Collaborating regularly with the other grade-level teachers and specialists
  • Participating in all aspects of Bentley’s character education curriculum
  • Designing innovative curricula in which both academic and social-emotional growth are considered
  • Instruct individual students, small groups, or whole class to carry out curriculum
  • Prepare and organize instructional materials
  • Act as classroom teacher in Lead Teachers’ absence
  • Attending regular faculty and grade-level meetings
  • Assisting with supervision of students during lunch, recess, traffic duty, special events, off-campus field trips, etc.
  • Attending various school functions, including Admissions events, Back to School Night, Conferences, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, with an interest in a teaching career.
  • Enrollment in teaching credential or master’s degree program in Elementary Education, preferred.
  • Experience in an interdisciplinary environment with an emphasis on group collaboration and use of technology.
  • Experience in teaching problem-solving skills in addition to traditional core content
  • Excellent interpersonal, writing and communication skills.
  • Ability and willingness to work with students in large and small group settings using multiple teaching methods to reach a broad range of students.
  • Desire to continually examine one’s practice with the goal to improve student learning

Physical Requirements

Consistent mental alertness; standing, walking, or sitting for extended periods of time; lift, carry, push, and pull moderate weight objects; bending and twisting at waist and neck; kneeling and bending at the waist, reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally; dexterity of fingers and both arms and hands while performing duties, seeing to read, write, and use a computer; hearing and speaking to exchange information in person or on the telephone.

Pay Range

Bentley uses a competitive salary scale, which takes into account experience, education, and skill level. The salary for this position ranges from $53,000 - $56,000 per year (paid semi-monthly, 12 months, non-exempt)
