Position Title: Teacher Assistant – 190 Days

SUMMARY:

Assists the teacher in general daily classroom activities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assists in small group pupil instruction; tutors pupils at teacher’s request.
  • Assists teacher in maintaining discipline and other functions.
  • Assists with set up of classroom and prepares materials for specialized instructional units.
  • Handles attendance reports and related clerical functions with the teacher.
  • Assists in assembling/hanging materials on bulletin boards and keeping displays current.
  • Operates standard school equipment such as laminator, copier, audiovisual, etc.
  • Assists in after school and academic assistance lab.
  • Encourages proper student behavior in accordance to school collective commitments.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervises students.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION And/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED), a passing score on the WorkKeys Assessment Test, and completion of at least one of the following:

  • At least two years of study at an accredited institution of higher education; or
  • An associate's degree (or higher); or
  • An approved State or local academic assessment that measures the paraprofessional's knowledge of and ability to assist in instruction of the following subjects at the appropriate level, e.g., ParaPro.
Language Skills

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Effective presentation of information in one-on-one and small group situations.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions in practical situations.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed or simple written or oral instructions. Deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Other Skills And Abilities

Previous work in child care. Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff, and the school community. Clear and concise communication skills, both orally and in writing. Ability to perform duties in accordance with district requirements and policies.
