Job summary

John Wayland Elementary School in Bridgewater, Virginia is seeking a Special Education Teacher Assistant 1:1 to support a student with disabilities in a 10-month assignment at JWES.

The position starts immediately and requires a high school diploma or GED, plus two years of college; ParaPro is preferred. CPR/AED/First Aid certification is encouraged. You will assist the lead teacher, implement accommodations, and foster positive relationships with the student, family, and staff.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Candidate must possess the ability to develop and maintain an empathetic attitude toward disabled students; work cooperatively with others in a positive manner; willing to learn specialized instructional/management techniques with disabled students, as needed; willing to seek and maintain Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation(CPR)/Automated External Defibrillator(AED)/First Aid certification; ability to communicate and develop effective working relationships with students, parents, and staff.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Education equivalent to graduation from an accredited high school or General Education Development Certificate (GED). Two years of college, 12 undergraduate credits in math/English or a passing score on the ParaPro Assessment preferred.
