Position Goal

To assist the Early Childhood Teacher with day-to-day activities.

Essential Performance Responsibilities
  • Practice appropriate interaction and language with students.
  • Exercise responsibility for the safety and welfare of students.
  • Maintain job-related certifications required by the State of Florida, as applicable.
  • Assist in the implementation of programs developed by the teachers to reach educational objectives.
  • Prepare and utilize instructional materials and teaching aids in conjunction with the teacher.
  • Assist students with teacher-planned activities.
  • Take an active role in helping the teacher plan instructional activities.
  • Follow up on lessons presented by the teacher when provided with guidelines.
  • Supervise small group discussions and activities under the direction of the teacher.
  • Work with individual students, based on developmental needs, under the teacher's direction.
  • Collaborate with the teacher in planning and implementing activities.
  • Select specific supplementary materials for use in the instructional program as directed.
  • Assist teachers with parent activities.
  • Supervise and dine with children during mealtime and encourage good eating habits.
  • May provide assistance with activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, restroom functions, mobility assistance, seizure control, feeding needs, adaptive equipment, and behavioral assistance.
  • Maintain a neat and orderly work environment.
  • Perform activities in compliance with equal employment and nondiscrimination policies.
  • Participate in professional development programs.
  • Review current developments and literature related to job responsibilities.
  • Ensure adherence to safety rules and procedures.
  • Follow applicable laws, standards, and policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by school leadership.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience
  • High school diploma or GED, and valid Florida Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or equivalent, or
  • Associate's degree or higher from an accredited institution.

Additional requirements include mandated continuing education, computer skills, and ongoing certification maintenance.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience
  • Prior experience working with children.
  • Bilingual skills.
Physical Requirements

Light work exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds frequently.

Terms of Employment

Salary and benefits are according to the district's plan. Work hours and calendar are set by the School Board.

Additional Information

Position is at pay Grade 13, with a work calendar of 188 days. New hires start at the minimum salary of the range. Employment is contingent upon a successful background check. All applications are subject to Florida Public Records Law.
