Job Summary:

The Teacher Assistant assists the Teacher/LTA in an Early Childhood classroom of 9-18 students, aged from infants to PreK, with and without disabilities.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Implement lesson plans including instructional groups as directed by the teacher.
  2. Assist in planning and developing/setting up instructional materials for the classroom.
  3. Assist in administering assessments and monitoring progress.
  4. Document academic progress through authentic observations and data collection in collaboration with the teacher.
  5. Utilize and ensure consistent implementation of behavior management and classroom techniques, including data collection.
  6. Perform lead teacher assistant duties in the absence of the lead teacher.
  7. Stay informed on best and promising educational practices by attending professional development, participating in book studies, etc.
  8. Perform caretaking and housekeeping duties as needed, such as changing students and maintaining classroom cleanliness.
  9. Maintain positive interactions and communication with staff and parents.
  10. Attend required training sessions, meetings, and events.
  11. Inform administration of all parent and individual student concerns and complaints.
  12. Ensure compliance with procedures, requirements, and guidelines set by UCP, HIPAA, NAEYC, Department of Education, 4C, Department of Children and Families, and other relevant agencies.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Training:

  • G.E.D. or High School Diploma
  • DCF 45-hour Training completed within 90 days of hire
  • CPR/First Aid Certification

Minimum Experience:

  • Prefer at least 1 year of experience working with children, preferably in a classroom setting.
  • Prefer experience working with students with disabilities.
