2025 - 2026 School Year

Position: Teacher Assistant (Paraprofessional) /ISI Facilitator

Reports to: Assigned Teacher, Building Principal

Qualifications:

48 Hours College Credit OR Passing Score on Paraprofessional Test. High School Diploma or Equivalent. Completion of Paraprofessional Training as required by the OSDE. Ability to handle behavioral issues with 6th-8th-grade students.

Job Goal:

Provides adult support to small groups of students or one-on-one to assist with educational, academic, and behavioral goals.

Classification: Nonexempt

Evaluation: Annually by Supervising Teacher and Site Principal

Physical Demands:

Regular Requirements:

Stand for extended periods; walk; twist; bend and reach; repetitive use of fingers and hands; lift/move up to 50 pounds.

Occasional Requirements: Lift/move up to 100 pounds.

Visual Requirements: Close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, focus adjustment.

Hearing/Speaking Requirements: Adequate for communication.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Note: duties vary based on individual student needs and IEPs.

Typical duties include:

  • Accompanying students to classes or therapy, monitoring behavior, assisting with classwork.
  • Cleaning and maintaining work area.
  • Assisting with instruction, errands, and copies.
  • Attending IEP, meetings, and trainings.
  • Alerting teachers of concerns.
  • Maintaining confidentiality.
  • Complying with laws, policies, and procedures.
  • Using professional behavior.
  • Monitoring and reinforcing student progress.
  • Observing, recording, and charting behavior.
  • Assisting with crisis and behavior management.
  • Providing scheduled one-on-one tutoring.
  • Scoring tests and maintaining records.
  • Implementing instructional programs.
  • Developing classroom schedules.
  • Operating classroom equipment.
  • Short-term class coverage.
  • Assisting with eligibility lists.
  • Supervising children in hallways, lunchroom, playground.
  • Performing other assigned tasks.
