Qualifications

Job description

Hourly Pay Range:

$17.43 - $24.40 - The hourly pay rate offered is determined by a candidate's expertise and years of experience, among other factors.

Position Highlights:

• Position: Teacher Assistant II
• Location: Chicago, IL
• Full Time
• Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm
• Required Travel: none

A Brief Summary:

• Responsible for assisting teachers in maintaining and implementing Montessori philosophy in the classroom.

What you will do:

• Manage arrival and dismissal of children in the Montessori manner.
• Maintain upkeep of the environment.
• Make Montessori materials under guidance of the supervising teacher.
• Assist teachers during Montessori "work" time to guide children through activities.
• Organize snack times, direct some group activities, and assist with outdoor activities.
• Attend staff meetings, in-service meetings, and participate in planning programs for the center.
• Assist teachers at meal times.
• Assist children and adults in toilet or diapering procedures.

Additional duties:

• Assist Dietary Aide in distribution of food.
• Clean tables, floors, and dishes according to City of Chicago and DCFS Standards.
• Teacher Assistant II's may be called upon to substitute for a Montessori Teacher or Teacher in their absence, meeting minimal DCFS Standards for classroom management. When substituting, they will supervise Teacher Assistant III's to maintain DCFS Standards.

What you will need:

• Experience in daycare or Montessori child care/pre-school preferred.
• Organizational ability, sound judgment, effective communication, and planning skills to implement classroom programs.
• Two years or 60 college credit hours, including 6 hours in Child Development, OR one year experience in a child care facility with 30 college credit hours, including 6 in Child Development.
• First Aid and CPR certification preferred.
