Job Summary

Under the direction of the Teacher, the Teacher Assistant will help implement a curriculum based on best practice standards and other relevant standards. Responsibilities include assisting with the maintenance of progress notes, assessments, and screenings on the emotional, physical, social, and intellectual development of classroom children.

Essential Functions
  • Work with the teacher to develop and implement a curriculum based on best practice standards.
  • Ensure compliance with DHS childcare, Head Start, and Pre-K regulations.
  • Observe children's health daily and report conditions needing attention.
  • Maintain progress notes and collect data on children's developmental progress.
  • Communicate regularly with staff about each child's needs.
  • Collaborate with Support and Mentor-Coaching teams to support children's academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs.
  • Participate in four parent-teacher conferences annually, ideally two at home and two at school.
  • Contribute to agency and program meetings and committees.
  • Engage in supervision and peer review to improve performance.
  • Integrate services for families across classroom, home, center, and community settings.
  • Complete 30 hours of relevant training within the first year, and 20 hours annually thereafter.
  • Support program quality and success through collaborative work.
  • Assist in promoting agency programs and educating the community about services.
  • Interact respectfully with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Pursue ongoing professional development, including core supervisory training.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
For Teacher Assistant I:
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
For Teacher Assistant II:
  • CDA certification minimum.
For Teacher Assistant III and Pre-K:
  • Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education or Bachelor’s Degree in related fields (e.g., child psychology, nursing).

Additional requirements include organizational skills, basic computer skills, bilingual ability (English/Spanish preferred), knowledge of health and safety, physical ability to lift up to 40 lbs, and the ability to meet background screening and immunization requirements.
