Job summary

The Brunswick School in Jersey City, NJ seeks an Assistant Teacher to support Lead Teachers and foster a nurturing classroom where curiosity and creativity flourish.

You will plan and implement activities, help establish routines, supervise students, and communicate with parents. This role requires a high school diploma and at least two years in a child care setting, with flexible hours and ability to lift 40 lbs.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required.
• Associates degree in education/related field or CDA preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in child care setting.
• Able to lift 40 lbs and perform physical activities to ensure child safety.
• Willing to work flexible hours.
• Must be technologically literate and able to use educational technology.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning and implementing activities to meet the physical, emotional, intellectual and social needs of students.
• Assist in developing culturally appropriate programs and activities.
• Establish routines and procedures for daily learning/play experiences.
• Supervision of students in the classroom.
• Establish routines with Lead Teacher and provide positive guidance for behavioral outcomes.
• Communicate with parents about child progress as needed with Lead Teacher approval.
• Collaborate with Lead Teacher to develop weekly plans and activities.
• Perform assigned tasks as designated by Lead Teacher/Director.

As a key member of our teaching staff, you will play a pivotal role in assisting the early educational experience for our students while collaborating with a supportive team of professionals.

Job Responsibilities

• Clearly and effectively communicate in a manner that children understand
• Communicate to parents on an as needed basis about child's behavior, positive and negative, with approval of Lead Teacher
• Collaborate regularly with Lead Teacher to develop weekly plans and activities
• Perform assigned tasks as designated by Lead Teacher/ Director

Required Qualifications

• High School Diploma required
• Associates degree in education/related field or CDA preferred
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in child care setting
• Ability to relate positively to young children, parents and staff
• Willing to work flexible hours in order to meet the needs of the program.
• Able to lift 40 lbs and walk, squat/kneel, sit on floor, see, hear, speak with children to ensure children’s health and safety
• Must be willing to work flexible hours
• Must be technological literate. Assistant Teachers will be required to use, manage, understand, and assess technology.
