Job summary

A local educational institution in New York seeks a qualified individual to work in crisis intervention. Qualifications

  • Completion of Life Space Intervention and Therapeutic Crisis Intervention training required.

Responsibilities

  • Work with staff and supervise students in the crisis room.
  • Prevent crises and prepare students for positive re-entry.
  • Develop positive relationships with students.

Job description
Responsibilities

Works with staff, i.e. teachers, teacher's assistants, social workers and administration in a manner which is beneficial to the students.

Supervises students in the crisis room and utilizes staff for support in interventions when necessary.

Prevents a crisis from occurring by interceding upon request and removes a student from a situation when applicable.

Prepares students for a positive classroom re-entry.

Develops a positive working relationship with the students.

Functions as a member of the crisis team in performing tasks relevant to setting, implementing, achieving and evaluating behavior management plans; maintains and submits progress notes and other reports; meets and consults with members of the crisis team.

Other duties as determined by the building administrator.

Supports the Sodus Central School District Strategic Plan.

Qualifications
  • Either a Bachelor’s degree with one to two years of experience working with youth in an educational setting, or an Associate’s Degree with three years of experience working with youth in an educational setting, will be required.
  • New York State Level 1 Teacher Assistant certificate required, or must have application for certificate and ATAS test scheduled upon hire. Incumbent will be required to hold and maintain a Level 3 certificate within the first six years of employment.
  • Completion of Life Space Intervention training, as well as Therapeutic Crisis Intervention training during the first year of employment is required.
  • Must have ability to maintain discipline, have good judgment, and flexibility.
  • Must have ability to work with confidential information.
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
