POSITION SUMMARY:
This position partners with all classroom staff to ensure quality teaching and supervision of preschool-aged children. Along with all classroom staff, the Teacher Assistant (TA) ensures children learn to play, explore, and stay safe in a positive environment. The TA implements curriculum, enforces classroom rules, teaches social-emotional skills, and facilitates learning during play (indoor/outdoor) and routines. The TA also observes children, documents results in the data system, and supports compliance with regulations through data collection and entry.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Maintain regular, daily attendance to ensure consistency and safety.
- Follow established work schedules, supervision directives, and policies & procedures, demonstrating good work ethic.
- Attend mandatory training and staff meetings.
- Use self-regulation to maintain composure in high-stress environments.
- Multitask and remain flexible during the workday.
- Follow the daily schedule, allowing children to make choices in learning experiences.
- Facilitate language development through interactions with children.
- Ensure supervision through indoor/outdoor zoning.
- Work cooperatively and professionally with children, families, co-workers, partners, and volunteers.
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, in a positive and respectful manner.
- Demonstrate patience, considering children's developmental milestones.
- Collaborate to create a safe, inviting, and engaging learning environment.
- Conduct observations and document results in the data system.
- Move between classrooms as needed to meet supervision requirements.
- Participate in and teach during Family Style Meals and Cafeteria routines during transitions.
- Use established social-emotional tools to prevent and defuse challenging behaviors.
- Follow emergency procedures to ensure safety during drills or emergencies.
- Support and implement established curricula.
- Respect and support cultural differences and diversity.
- Report suspected abuse/neglect immediately, adhering to mandated reporter laws.
- Maintain confidentiality and privacy of all customers and staff.

- Support and comply with management decisions.
- Comply with Head Start standards, licensing, and program policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned, remaining flexible to meet children's educational needs.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
- Basic computer skills and operation of office equipment.
- Knowledge of early childhood development and community resources.
- Experience working with preschool children.
- Knowledge of developmentally appropriate materials.

- Ability to learn and adapt.
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma or GED required.
- Within 6 months, obtain a CDA credential.
- Within 30 days, complete First Aid and CPR certification.
- Current physical exam and TB test before employment and every three years.
- Pass criminal background check and drug screening.
- Valid driver’s license meeting insurance requirements.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Must meet physical demands such as lifting up to 30 pounds, using hands, reaching, sitting, standing, walking, stooping, and crouching. Vision and hearing abilities required. Exposure to weather conditions and noise levels vary. Reasonable accommodations may be provided for disabilities.
