Responsibilities include:

  1. Being directly responsible for the welfare, activities, and program delivery of the students scheduled to work with.
  2. Coordinating daily work assignments and schedules with the Classroom Teacher.
  3. Creating positive outcomes for students who have difficulty learning or become frustrated easily, by presenting learning opportunities at their level and reinforcing their efforts.
  4. Reinforcing desired behaviors, following behavior plans, and modeling appropriate social behaviors and work attitudes.
  5. Completing reports such as situation reports, restraint forms, and accident reports as needed.
  6. Implementing behavior plans, IEP goals, and documenting behavior data.
  7. Communicating student concerns to teachers, clinicians, and team members.
  8. Care for classroom equipment and supplies, and recommend purchases for needed supplies.
  9. Following all building security and parking guidelines; participating in fire drills.
  10. Driving an agency van for class trips when required, with a valid driver’s license and approval.
  11. Supervising students during summer pool sessions.
  12. Performing other duties as assigned by the Principal or Assistant Principal.
Qualifications
  • Experience preferred, especially OMRDD experience; a valid driver’s license is preferred.
  • High School Diploma required; AA or BA degree preferred.
  • Behavior Management skills required.
  • Ability to work with children with multiple disabilities.
  • Must meet New York State Teacher Assistant Certification requirements.
