Job summary

Hunger Mountain Children's Center is seeking a dedicated Teacher Assistant/Floater to support infants to age five in a play-based environment. You will ensure safety, assist in activities, and collaborate with the team to enhance the quality of education.

The role involves covering for teachers, maintaining classroom hygiene, and communicating with families. Willingness to train the right candidate is key, with potential for advancement through VT licensing credentials.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma.
  • Willing to train the right individual.
  • Completion ofFundamentals in Early Childhood Education class or a 3 credit course within 6 months is preferred.
  • Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education or VT licensing can qualify for a higher salary.

Responsibilities

  • Cover for teachers during breaks, vacations, sick days, and planning time.
  • Ensure classroom safety and child well-being at all times.
  • Assist in maintaining children's hygiene and diaper changes.
  • Communicate with children and families and build relationships.
  • Help keep the facility clean and orderly.
  • Follow Vermont Licensing Regulations.

Education

About This Role

Hunger Mountain Children's Center, a non-profit child care and preschool, is seeking an energetic Teacher Assistant/Floater to join our team. This is a great opportunity for a reliable and motivated educator to work with children from infants to age five in a play-based environment. The Teacher Assistant will be responsible for ensuring the safety, well-being, and health of children while supporting classroom teachers by creating a caring and safe environment and assisting in activities to improve the overall quality of education. They must be able to communicate, listen and work well with others in a team environment.

What You'll Do
  • Cover for teachers during breaks, vacations, sick days, planning time, etc.
  • Ensure safety of classroom and children at all times
  • Help children maintain healthy hygiene and change diapers
  • Communicate and build relationships with children and families
  • Help manage the appearance and cleanliness of the facility
  • Abide by Vermont Licensing Regulations
Requirements

The candidate must be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma. We are willing to train the right individual.

Nice To Haves
  • The ideal candidate will have completed the state's Fundamentals in Early Childhood Education class or a 3 credit course in early childhood education - or able to complete the class within 6 months
  • An added bonus would be an Early Childhood Apprenticeship Certificate, Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education and/or qualify as a Teacher or Teacher Associate through VT licensing regulations, which would qualify for a higher salary.
