A Starting Place is a special education preschool located in Pearl River, NY that cares for children ages 3-5 years old. We are looking for friendly, outgoing, reliable team players that would like to join our family and help make a difference in a child's early development.

We are currently hiring part time Teacher Assistants to work Monday- Friday, 8:45am- 2:30pm. Total work hours per week: 28.75. We are also willing to work with candidates looking for a modified schedule. (Either less hours or fewer days.) College students are welcome to apply! We offer a paid Teacher Assistant Certification reimbursement program. Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Please submit a resume for review.

Job Responsibilities

Create a safe, nurturing environment where children can play and learn.

Build relationships with families and coworkers to create an engaging environment where play and learning happen seamlessly.

Engage with each child by playing, interacting, talking to and listening to them at their appropriate developmental level.

Use positive verbal and body language to communicate with children.

Set up and maintain the classroom. This includes preparing learning materials, sweeping, organizing, cleaning and sanitizing surfaces.

Ensure that children are under direct and competent supervision at all times. (No cell phone use during work hours.)

Attend staff meetings, training and professional development as required.

Practice good personal hygiene and hand washing.

Communicate effectively, positively, and professionally with coworkers, administration and families.

Physical Demands

• Use strength to extend/reach both arms out to lift items and students (up to 30lbs) to perform the functions of the job.
• Stand, bend, kneel, turn, stretch, twist at the waist, squat, sit on the floor, walk and run (if necessary) for required periods of time.
• Use flexibility and agility to perform the functions of the job.
• Speak and hear.
• Use close vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception along with the ability to focus vision.
• Use hands and fingers to handle objects and operate tools, computers and/or controls.
  
  

Environmental Demands

• Exposure to a variety of childhood and adult diseases and illnesses.
• Exposure to a variety of weather conditions while assisting to load/unload buses and cars.
• Exposure to loud or prolonged noise. (Ex: Crying).
  
  

Other Hiring Requirements/Benefits

• Physical Exam-Required prior to start date & then annually. Initial TB test required as well.
  
  

Other Tests- NYS Teacher Assistant Certification Exam, required within the first 6 months after hiring.

Fingerprinting & Background check required prior to start date.
