PURPOSE

This position is responsible for classroom instruction and training in Visual Art education. This position could be assigned to teach any combination of the following: Art Basics, Art 1: Foundations, Photography 1 and 2, Art 2: 2-D Design, Art 2: 3-D Design, Art 2: Studio Art – Fiber and Textile Design, AP Art 1: Drawing and Painting, AP Art 2: Drawing and Painting, AP Art 1: 3D Design, Sculpture and Ceramics, AP Art 2: 3D Design, Sculpture and Ceramics, AP Art History. Please note, elective buildings could change based on district need.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

• Plan and implement a comprehensive art curriculum that includes a range of techniques, media, and art forms, such as painting, drawing, sculpture, digital art, and more.
• Develop engaging lesson plans that incorporate both practical skills and theoretical knowledge, aligning with state and national standards for arts education.
• Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and establish and communicate clear objectives to students for all lessons and units.
• Employ a variety of instructional techniques.
• Foster an inclusive, respectful, and positive classroom culture that encourages creativity, self-expression, and collaboration.
• Assess student progress through projects, assignments, and evaluations; provide constructive feedback to guide students in skill development.
• Organize and manage classroom materials, equipment, and supplies, ensuring a safe and efficient learning environment.
• Take necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
• Encourage students to participate in school art exhibits, competitions, and community art events.
• Collaborate with colleagues and school administration to integrate art into the broader curriculum and support cross-disciplinary projects.
• Maintain accurate records of student performance, attendance, and behavior; communicate regularly with parents/guardians about student progress.
• Stay current on developments in art education, incorporating new techniques and trends to enhance the curriculum.
• Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
• Prepare for assigned classes and show written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor.
• Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
• Participate in professional development opportunities, faculty meetings, and school events as required.
• Collaborate with administrators, colleagues, and parents in a positive and productive manner.
• Strive to implement by instruction and action, the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
• Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law, District policy, and Administrative regulation.
• Assist the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct and develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure while maintaining order in the classroom in a fair and appropriate manner.
• Make provisions for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
• Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and/or volunteer(s) where applicable.
• Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum: Bachelor’s degree; Missouri teacher certificate in Art K-12

Preferred: Has 3 or more years of high school art teaching experience.

Technology: Integrate technology into daily instruction; present information to students using a variety of media; Access and present information from online sources in a manner that enhances instruction; lead and monitor students as they perform online research; Instruct in buildings/classes where students are actively using 1-to-1 technology such as laptop computers, iPads, and other devices; Lead students in creating and presenting multi-media projects when such assignments enhance student learning; Use district software for recording grades and finding student information; Readily utilize smart boards, projectors and other instructional technology provided by the district; Adhere to all District policies and procedures regarding technology use. Physical Demands: An individual who holds this position must have the ability to: Speak and hear in an environment where numerous conversations and activities may be taking place simultaneously; Move around the classroom to interact with and manage students/groups of students; Read handwritten or printed material. Attendance: Consistent and regular attendance is an essential function of this position.

Conditions and Environment: The individual who holds this position will regularly work in a school environment that is noisy and active. Occasionally the individual will be required to work outdoors for short periods of time to perform such tasks as loading and unloading students from district transportation.
