Job summary

Nova Southern University is hiring a part-time preschool associate to provide nurturance and supervision in a developmentally appropriate program at NSU University School Preschool. You will implement engaging activities, prepare materials, and coordinate with families to foster a positive learning environment.

The role requires 18+ with a background check and trainings, including child abuse reporting and relevant literacy courses, and offers hourly pay with benefits as described by NSU.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old to apply.
• FDLE Background Screening required prior to employment.
• Complete Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect Training online (4 hours) before start.
• If lacking a degree in Early Childhood, obtain CDA or CDA equivalent within 90 days.
• Complete state-required Early Literacy trainings within 90 days of hire.
• Yearly in-service trainings provided by NSU University School Preschool.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions

• Provides nurturing and assistance to children in the classroom to ensure an enriching, safe, and clean classroom and playground environment.
• Assists in the implementation of a developmentally appropriate curriculum to ensure a stimulating learning experience.
• Supervises children during arrival, dismissal, playground time and lunch to ensure children are safe and accounted for at all times.
• Communicates with parents, coordinators and other primary care givers to ensure a positive, participating environment.
• Serves as a substitute teacher to ensure that assistance and support are provided to the students at all times.
• Prepares classroom learning materials and displays to ensure appropriate learning support materials are available at all times.
• Monitors and coordinates activities to provide children with an enhanced learning experience.
• Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

• Ability to lift, bend, carry, and put down up to fifty (50) pounds on a continuous basis.
• Repeated lifting and placing down of children required.
• Ability to sit on the floor for extended periods of time.

Required Certifications/Licensures

• Successful completion of the FDLE Background Screening.
• Must complete prior to the first day of employment the on-line Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect Training (4-hour course).
• Employees who do not have a completed degree (Associates or higher) in Early Childhood Education or related field must complete within ninety (90) days of hire a CDA (Child Development Associate) or CDA equivalent.
• Must complete within ninety (90) days of hire the state mandated Early Literacy for Children Birth to Three childcare trainings (5-hour course).
• Complete yearly in-service trainings provided by the NSU University School Preschool.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience in the field of early childhood.
• Additional knowledge and experience in parent education and parent support.
• Familiarity and knowledge concerning appropriate child development issues.
