Essential Job Functions
  • Assess individual children's levels, strengths, weaknesses and learning styles.
  • Develop, update, and implement IEPs.
  • Record and maintain school, classroom, and students' information such as attendance, student files, referral information, progress reports, lesson plans, curriculum development, and collection of data.
  • Attend and participate in departmental/division meetings, planning projects, activities, and school-related evening programs.
  • Prepare daily and weekly lesson plans in a manner that is responsive to the individual strengths and needs of the children; share in a team or grade level planning.
  • Establish and maintain a positive learning environment that reflects the school's philosophy.
  • Refer students, when necessary, following school procedures.
  • Communicate with parents and professional staff on a regular basis.
  • Conduct parent conferences.
  • Integrate technology into the teaching-learning process.
  • Maintain proper discipline and assist students in developing self‑discipline and a sense of responsibility.
  • Establish a humanistic, systematic classroom code of conduct.
  • Participate in arrival/dismissal, playground and lunch time supervisory responsibilities as assigned by the Director.
  • Attend faculty meetings.
  • Attend PTO meetings when needed.
  • Oversee Teacher Assistant and/or Aide.
  • Oversee undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Provide training.
  • Register for the 45‑hour training classes within the first 90 days of employment and complete such training within the first year of employment.
  • Complete eight (8) in‑service credit hours per school year.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required.
Job Requirements
Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Ability to lift, carry, and put down up to fifty pounds on a continuous basis.
  • Repeated lifting and placing down of children required.
Required Certifications / Licenses
  • Valid State of Florida Statement of Eligibility or verification of written application and transcripts with degree conferred.
  • Passing scores on the state required General Knowledge Test (or CLAST test) within the first year of employment.

Required Education: Bachelor's Degree

Required Experience
  • Must be at least 18 years of age to apply.
  • Experience working with special needs children.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Special Education or related field.
