The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) seeks a Teacher Aide to assist a Special Education Teacher in delivering basic subject instruction and classroom support in Northville, MI.

New hires start with training at Southeast Michigan Psychiatric Hospital in Northville (SMPH); after training they may work at Walter Reuther Psychiatric Hospital until their position transfers to SMPH.

Candidates must pass background checks; AI use is prohibited in the selection process.

This position will assist the Special Education Teacher in the instruction of basic subjects to students and provide a variety of services that assist in the daily operation of the classroom.

The preferred and appointed candidate will be subject to pre-employment, random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, return-to-duty and follow-up drug and/or alcohol testing.

All staff with start dates on/after 08/17/2026 will train at the Southeast Michigan Psychiatric Hospital (SMPH) in Northville but, upon completion of training may work at the Walter Reuther Psychiatric Hospital (WRPH) until their position/classification officially moves from WRPH to SMPH at a date yet to be determined.

Education

Educational level typically acquired through completion of high school.

Experience

• Teacher Aide 6 No specific type or amount is required.
• Teacher Aide 7 One year of experience equivalent to a Teacher Aide 6.
• Teacher Aide E8 Two years of experience equivalent to a Teacher Aide, including one year equivalent to a Teacher Aide 7.
