Teacher Aide (1:1)

Job Summary: Teacher Aide assists the Special Education Teacher in carrying out social, cognitive, behavioral and instructional objectives and supporting a child in achieving the annual and short-term goals set up in the child’s IEP. The position is dependent on having enrolled a child who requires a one-to-one aide per the IEP.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Assist a child in the transition from activity to activity.
• Prepare instructional materials as directed by teacher.
• Assist with proactive management of behavior.
• Assist in emergency situations: child’s illnesses, minor emergencies and crisis intervention.
• Assist with the physical needs of the child: feeding, dressing and toileting.
• Supervise and interact with a child during meals.
• Escort a child to the toilet, change diapers and clean as necessary.

Education & Experience

High School Diploma or Equivalent. One–two years’ experience working with special education pre‑school children.

Physical Requirements

Able to lift a child weighing 40 pounds.
