Job summary

A community service organization in the United States seeks a professional to support classroom staff in providing care and education to children in a Head Start classroom. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of one year of experience in early childhood education and will assist in maintaining a safe and compliant environment. Duties include interacting positively with children and families, as well as supporting the implementation of appropriate curriculum. This position involves Monday to Friday work hours from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Job description

Support classroom staff in providing care and education to children in a Head Start classroom.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for maintaining compliance by adhering to Agency Policy and Procedures, Administration for Children and Families Performance Standards, and North Carolina Day Care rules and regulations.
  • Assist classroom staff in maintaining a safe, clean, and healthy work/classroom environment.
  • Support classroom staff in implementing developmentally appropriate curriculum and assessment processes.
  • Model appropriate behavior and interact in a positive, friendly, and courteous manner with children, families, volunteers, and staff to foster responsive relationships.
  • Establishes and maintains a safe and healthy nurturing environment for children
  • On-going professional development through education, training, and resources
  • Adheres to protocols and procedures for active supervision.
  • Must adhere to the Code of Conduct at all times
  • Other duties as required.
Maintain Professional and Ethical Standards:
  • Maintain confidentiality by agency policy and legal requirements
  • Be honest, reliable, and dependable
  • Respect and maintain the rights and privacy of all staff, parents, and children
  • Attend mandated training and meetings, and seek out staff development opportunities
  • Work as a team member with all staff and maintain a positive work ethic
Knowledge and Skills:
  • Ability to work with individuals and groups of children ages 0-5, supporting social-emotional, physical, and cognitive growth
  • Ability to work with others in supporting a positive work environment
  • Ability to write reports & correspondence and read & interpret documents
  • Basic computer skills and some experience with computer applications (including; Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Must obtain a First Aid and Infant/Child CPR card within 90 days of hiring and keep current.
  • Occasionally lifting to 50 lbs. in the classroom setting; assist children into seats on the bus
  • Frequent kneeling, bending at the waist and neck; sitting on the floor, frequently getting up and down from the seat to assist children on the bus and in the learning environment
  • Communicate by telephone or in-person in a one-to-one or group setting.
Position Qualifications:

Minimum: High School Diploma or GED and Early Childhood Certificate or 12 credit hours or two years of experience working in an early childhood classroom.

Preferred: Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education and a minimum of one-year experience teaching infants/toddlers and/or preschool.

* Transcripts will be required to validate degrees/classes, which may require confirmation of up to 18 credit hours of coursework relating to Early Childhood Education

Required:
  • A minimum of one year experience in birth to five classrooms
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between various agency sites, community resources, and home visits
  • Ability to work professionally with others in a team environment.
Expected Hours of Work:
  • Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m.-12:00 pm
