Job summary

A local child services organization is seeking a dedicated individual to support teachers in maintaining a safe and engaging learning environment for children. The role involves supervising classroom activities, planning educational programs, and assisting in daily operations at the center. Candidates must have a high school diploma and relevant certificates, along with experience working with children. The position offers a structured work schedule and requires flexibility in hours to meet the needs of the classroom.

Qualifications

  • A valid NC driver's license is required.
  • Must be able to maintain compliance with relevant policies and regulations.
  • Physical ability to perform duties, including lifting and standing for extended periods.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in daily preparation and supervision of children in the classroom.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy learning environment for children.
  • Plan and prepare materials and activities for children.
  • Complete lesson plans for extended childcare weekly and submit to Center Directors
  • Provide 15-minute breaks for the teachers
  • Maintain daily attendance records for the extended childcare program
  • Assist in each classroom to provide breaks for all staff

Job description

Toassistand cooperate in a supportive role to the teacherwithcarrying out developmentallyappropriate activitiesin the learning environment.Assistin actively supporting theschoolreadiness goals, daily preparation, and the supervision of the children in the classroom and on the playground. Promote health, safety, nutrition, andthe children'seducation in the learning environment.

Major Accountabilities
  • Responsible formaintainingcompliance by adhering to Agency Policy and Procedures,Administration for Children and Families Performance Standards, and North Carolina Day Carerules and regulations.
  • Assistdaily within the Head Start/Early Head Start center as directed by the Center Manager.
  • Responsible for supervising children by providing andmaintaininga safe, healthy learningenvironment.
  • Responsible forparticipatingin keeping the center in compliance in the absence of a teacherassistant, teacher, and/or substitute.
  • Plan and prepare materials and activities for individuals and/or larger groups of children enrolledin the learning environment and/or the extended childcare program.
  • Complete lesson plans for the extended childcare children weekly andsubmitthem to Center Directors
  • Provide 15-minute breaks for the teachers assigned at the center.
  • Flexible and able to adjust work schedule as needed
  • Assist in each classroom on an assigned basis to provide breaks for all teachers and teacherassistants.
  • Maintainingdaily attendance records for the extended childcare program

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Required
  • High School diploma or equivalency (GED)
  • EDU 119 Certificate
  • Experience working with children in a group setting
Preferred
  • Early Childhood Certificate, Child Development Associate (CDA) in preschool and/or infanttoddler development,
  • A combination of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted or Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education and a minimum of one-year experience teaching infants/toddlers and/or preschool.
Expected Hours of Work

9:00 am - 6:00 pm (1-hour break provided)

Work Environment and Physical Requirements
  • Maintains physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include walking, bending, stretching, lifting, standing or sitting for extended periods, and operating assigned equipment.
  • Ability to work flexible/overtime hours, as needed.
  • Requires valid NC driver’s license and ability to travel between various agency sites and community resources.
